Forums - Sales - Did 360 beat Wii in September sales for NA......

...almost!

A lot of you thought Halo would allow 360 to top Wii and maybe even take back WW lead. I stated over and over that it would beat the Wii for a couple of weeks in NA (I actually didn't expect it to top Wii in Others) but not top Wii overall for the Month. Especially, WW due to Japan's difference alone.

Well with today's updates September's counts are in:

           wii          360
9.8.07 116,659 75,690
9.15.07 93,455 88,658
9.22.07 92,504 103,530
9.29.07 98,173 122,834

SUM 400,791 390,712

As you can see the Wii was able to keep its montly lead. But wow was this close. 360's hardware saw a steady increase leading up to Halo's launch, and I expect to see the same type of decrease until November.

Guess we'll have to wait a few weeks to see if I'm right.

Also, in my predictions below, to get to 360's end of year total I had predicted 400k for September and 375k for Wii. Damn, I was close. At this rate the only number I may be off on is Wii's, its trending to nail 19m.

Wow, very close indeed, i must say i was a little surprised that the 360 didn't sell more than it did this week

I'm not saying anything against ioi or the site, but his data is very wrong for the totals. Once NPD comes out for the month of September the 360 sales will be higher then the wii.

@GT, maybe. But, typically ioi's totals for Wii are much lower than NPD's and higher on 360. So, I think you may be surprised.

NPD's numbers for September will have 5 weeks counted.

Also I find it odd that Halo 3 didn't drive that many sales in North America for the week when it doubled sales in the UK* which has a fairly similar market for the 360.

5 weeks? wtf. I seriously don't understand how NPD operates. I would make more sense to have Oct as 5 weeks than September. Oh well, I will update this thread when next weeks totals are in.

I might be eating crow then, if 360 doesn't drop off as quickly as I think it will.

360 should do at least 100k, which would put 360/Wii roughly neck and neck for the month.

But what is important is that the monthly 360 sales will almost hit 500k - just for the US. Now *we* all know this is 5 weeks, but imagine when the NPD figures come out with this figure.

On the other hand, PS3 sales have been pretty weak (various reasons):
- 29.6k
- 27k
- 30k
- 51k
(total: 138k + extra week coming...)

If next week is around 30k - and no reason to believe it wouldn't be (or lower), that makes 170k for the (5 week) month.

The media will have an absolute field day comparing 500k Wii, 500k 360... 170k PS3.

Just as well Sony has the "bombshell" just around the corner (before?) the NPD results hit.

Dude I've been saying that every time I could.  UK userbase is 1/5th of the userbase in America.  Halo 3 sold 460k compared to around 2.6 in America.  That's almost exactly 1/5th.  Then the hardware doubles in UK but here, where it's 80x more popular, it only increases 19%?  Blasphemy!!

Its worth noting that 4 (5?) weeks ago, the 360 sales in the US were 66k. So they have basically doubled.

The US has seen a more gradual ramp up of 360 sales - due to Madden, Bioshock, Stranglehold, price cut, etc.

The effect of those on 360 sales in Europe hasn't been as strong.

Very true, however, you're forgeting the 360 used to average around 25k weekly in all europe and when the pricedrop hit it shot up around 43k and had maintained at 37k until halo 3 hit then it doubled from 37 to 74k this week.  In other words price cut = 25 to 40k, and a similar/identical boost in the same way in America.

Anyhow, I'm predicting 520k for 360 in the 5 weeks   Was your prediction 500k even Shams?
