Forums - Sales - Sept. Wii software vs PS3 software

I agree Bodhesatva, the topic creator made a poor post with faulty logic. It's good to see you agree on the 100% wii play 0% wii sports. You have to admit though, that statement is contradictory to your original "add both" statement.

I suggest if people use the NPD as a guideline, as they are the industry standard for tracking software sales, they can't go wrong. Wii sports should never be used for any topic regarding Game attach rates or overall software sales for a system as they artificially inflate both in America.

You're right, and I apologize.

If you were willing to go back and scan through old posts, you'd see I've responded to this specific number-spinning technique multiple times, with (reasonably?) polite and full explanations. Sometimes, those discussions have spanned several pages.

I think I was simply tired of it. I STILL feel (as I've said before) that a 50 percent count on Sports and Play is the best solution, although I understand the impracticality of such a calculation.

You'd be amazed, I think, how many people buy the Wii for Wii sports. For some people, it seems quite apparent that they don't consider Wii Sports a free "pack in" with their Wii, they consider the Wii system a 250 dollar attachment that's necessary to play Wii Sports. I'm not sure how you could reasonably calculate how many such people exist, but it's considerably more than zero.

This thread is retarded. I'm sorry but I'm not sugar-coating it, the intention behind its creation is quite apparent as is the cherry picking.

Wii Sports shouldn't be included because it's a pack-in. But Wii Play? That's just moronic, you HAVE to pay for that game. It's not like Wii Sports where you get it regardless with your Wii; you either buy Wii Play or you don't, and it's by no means the only way to acquire an extra remote (and you don't even get the damn nunchuck).

That said, you have no point. You take a month full of mostly low-key budget game releases for the Wii (one of which wasn't even suppsoed to be released until Oct. 2nd) versus a month with one of the PS3's most hyped, biggest releases of the year (Heavenly Sword) and pretend like you put together some remarkable presentation. You didn't. Phail moar, plz.

On another note: Are we being invaded by Birdman?

Good find and does explain why developers are not throwing their big franchises onto the wii even with its big user base.

Let's see. Wii software killed PS3 software in September when several of PS3's largest games this year came out and only one major title for Wii came out. It makes perfect sense, the Wii is doomed! Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna go to Gamestop and trade in my Wii and all of the games for a $400 PS3 that doesn't even play PS2 games.

This is the best post in this thread so far, seriously. Hard to say it better than that.

What was Wii's biggest game this september? Dewey? With Halo right around the corner?

And then you throw in Heavenly Sword (PS3 dominations starts... later)... then is no comparison.

*throws the Wii outta the window*

Am i the only one who sees the point on this?

some of you guys are right, Wii Play should be counted BUT besides that, he does have a point....

He is just saying that without Wii Play and Wii Sports the Wii is doing poorly, and none of you can deny that and his whole point is fair and makes sense.

Also, i wanted to add:
Don't fool yourselves, we all know everyone who buys a wii wants his second controller and 80% of those people get Wii Play... i mean who wouldnt want an extra game for just $10? After all the main selling point about the wii is the controller so a game like that is gonna sell.
There's absolutely no other reason why it would be selling more than Metroid Prime even though it was just released.

Even with Wii play and Wii sports the attach rate of PS3 is bigger than the Wii.
