Forums - General - Teenagers in america are so adult-bodied as the movies shows?

I'm nearly sure the most of High School movies actor aren't teenagers anymore. I've never seen a Sixteen years boy so muscle as exists in this kind of movie and never seen a sixteen years girls with such body. Sure there is boys and girls with a more developed(not sure about this world) than others, but nothing like the american teenagers movies, looks like every sport guys take steroids and every girls have silicone.

I don't know if there's something in the milk nowadays, but kids do develop a lot faster. I had a cousin who had breasts in elementary school. It's crazy!

I think you'll find most teenagers (and everyone else) in America are overweight...

Well, while this is true we still have exceptions. I know my brother is 6' and 175 with less than 7% body fat. He's only 15.

You get some crazy kids.

Is this gonna lead to a "She said she was 18!" Story from you? xD

Kids are indeed developing faster; this much has been shown empirically. The current theory is that it might have to do with chemicals in most shampoo brands that mimic the effects of estrogen. However, the "kids" and "teenagers" seen in movies are still typically portrayed by people several years older than the character's supposed age. There are several reasons for this, but the biggest one is child-labor laws: if you can find someone who looks young enough to pass as a kid or teenager, they're legally allowed to work longer per day than actual kids of that age.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I think the fatty intact is causing kids' bodies to mature much faster.

Also it isn't uncommon for adult actors to play teens. Ashley Tisdale is in her late 20's and she plays a teenager in High School Musical and Suite life.

I'm actually underweight; used to be normal (good amount of muscle and little fat) but I got really sick last fall, and I lost a ton of weight. I'm like 6'1" and 140lbs. It's still pretty bad.

I'm lucky enough to live in the state with the least amount of fat people too. Go Colorado!

Don't ruin it for me and mention that the obesity rate went up or any other loopholes in my logic. Or that the link is two years old. o_o

Edit: Okay, Colorado is still the "leanest" state.

The reason most people who play teenagers on TV and in movies don't look like most teenagers is because they're not teenagers ... For the most part they're actors that are between the age of 25 and 35.

This doesn't stop with "Teenage" characters, actors like Brad Pit and Tom Cruise are in their late 40s and regularly play characters who are supposed to be in their mid 30s; and Jennifer Connelly and Jennifer Aniston are both almost 40 and regularly play "Twenty Something" characters.
