What determines if a title is AAA?

Me.

No kidding. I think the most commonly accepted definition is 90%+ on Metacritic. But a game doesn't need to be AAA to be awesome.

The second definition is better. I go by 90% GR (2sf) for AAA, it gives no connitations of must have for me, that is completely different

You started that, and you know it...at least amongst users on this site. And it's still not a complete measure of a game's AAA-ness

Depends on what platform they are on.

Depends if the reviewer actually like the type of game they are reviewing.

Depends if the game have great graphics or not.

Depends if the reviewer want that type of game to sell on it's favorite console, or not to sell on it's least favorite.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Uncharted 2 will not achieve AAA sales, I expect it to do around resistance 2 numbers. The first one only sold well through heavily bundling, like viva pinata.

"AAA sales"? what's that? another bullshit term with absolutely no defined meaning the community made up?

I personally am very certain, that Uncharted 2 will sell more than 3 million units within it's first year .. or are these not "AAA sales" ?

Well, lets define AAA sales as over 3 million units in the first year then, because Uncharted 2 certainly wont meet that

In the industry a AAA game is one that has been worked on for awhile with a large budget.

but according to the fanboys it is a game that has over 89% on metacritic

No, in the industry an AAA game is a game that just turned gold for release.

However, some idiots started misusing the meaning of AAA, and now many people think AAA stands for "high-quality game", which is ignorant. It's like when most people thought the new millenium started in 2000 and not 2001. Just ignorant people (and most of them stupid, I might add)

Well, the new millenium started in 2000... I couldn't give a f- about 2001. That's a boring year.

Wrong thread

A distinction has to be made I think. People automatically assume that because its the posterboy of the PS3 that the uncharted franchise is a big deal in the gaming industry. Yes, Uncharted is one of Sony's biggest franchises, but this doesnt automatically make it one of the industries biggest franchises, Uncharted doesnt hold a candle, in mindshare or in sales, to series such as Mario, Halo, Zelda, GTA, Gears, MGS, even Assassin's Creed, ect. The same is true of Resistance.

So if a game can be awesome without being rated over 90% on metacritic, isn't your sig pointless starcraft?

But then he can't make the 360 look better than the other consoles!

My signature doesn't assert any opinions as too whether 90%+ games effect the console war.

It is the statistics that apparently assert the Xbox 360 as being the superior console.

Despite the fact that a game can be awesome without being rated over 90% ?

So the 360 has the most 90% games, but is not necessarily the most awesome console...

AAA titles ARE awesome.

Non-AAA titles MAY be awesome to SOME portions of the gaming population.

Do you really feel AAA titles are irrelevant?
