They do sell extremely well.

You just are confusing what the word hardcore means.

Mario Kart Wii is the best selling hardcore game of this generation.

I concur.

There are quite a few VGC users who have turned into rabid Wii haters after they have played against us in Mario Kart Wii.

Even though you are all three rubbish?  I find that very strange.

Hardcore (Core) Games sell as well on the Wii like on other consoles, and like other consoles there are games that underperform.

I would like to know which 'core' game are you talking about specifically. I mean if a watered down port like CoD:WaW can sell over a million ( after selling a buttload on HD consoles) it shows decent games can appeal to a wide audience on Wii as well..

It would surely be much better if most of the gaming media won't trash on each and every wii game only because they are too stubborn to adapt a new style of play ( even if it's better).

PS: as others have pointed out MadWorld is a niche game and hence the sales.

The top 3 Wii "hardcore" games have sold more than the top 3 core games on either the PS3 or 360..Or are we not counting first party titles? Also the Wii has missed the GTA4's, RE5's and the like. Wii's either been overlooked all together, or given some shitty port or crummy spin off.

The core titles on Wii that sell tons are usually Nintendo's own products not just because they are revered franchises but because the games are top notch. Nintendo puts their best foot forward always on their products which is why they are revered. People always say "oh its Mario of course its gonna sell" "Or oh its Wii-whatever, of course its gonna sell" But the fact is it isn't as one dimensional as that, the games are quality.

If third parties are going to treat the Wii like a bastardized step child then their games' sales will reflect that.

Sometimes great games don't catch on, and that is a shame, but that is not a phenomena exlcusive to the Wii, this is a fact that has been with us since the pong days.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I think the whole "casual vs. hardcore" dichotomy is grossly overblown and generally stupid. From my experience, both with WoW (where that stupid argument also dominates) and gaming in general, labeling someone boils down to their comparative interest level.

If person 2 is less interested in gaming, or has different tastes, person 1 labels him "casual". If person 2 has similar interest and taste in gaming, he's (hard)core. If person 2 is more interested, spends more time, or spends more money, person 1 feels he has no life.

In reality, there is no hard and fast "hardcore" or "casual", just different people, with different tastes and differing interest. Yet for some reason, people like to turn them into a dichotemy, with little to no overlap. KZ2 is hardcore. MKWii is casual. X360 is hardcore. Wii is casual. Etc.

In reality, I've never met anyone who didn't blend the two "opposites" greatly. My dad hardly ever plays games, and by hardly ever, I mean a few times a year. Yet he beat Mario 3 back in the day, and has beaten Resident Evil 4 (on Gamecube) like 4 times. The only other games he's shown interest in recently are KZ2, L4D and CoD4. Would he be casual (based on gaming time) or hardcore (based on gaming interest).

Or me. By many definitions, I'd be hardcore (own every system, have legions of games for all). On the other hand, I've got terrible reaction time, coordination and thus get my butt kicked in games like Halo 3 by people who don't even own the game. And Mario Party (and other "casual" titles) are among my favorite.

In short, casual and hardcore are self serving labels to try and boost one's own tastes in gaming, and put down those one does not enjoy.

This.
