Forums - Nintendo - Why Hardcore wii games don't sell

They do sell extremely well.

You just are confusing what the word hardcore means.

Mario Kart Wii is the best selling hardcore game of this generation.

They don't sell partly because nobody bothers to market them and partly because the reviewers smear them every chance they get for being on the Wii.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I concur.

There are quite a few VGC users who have turned into rabid Wii haters after they have played against us in Mario Kart Wii.

This is why megaman 2 doesn't acknowledge the Wii in his most recent posts.

We are too hardcore for our own good.

You're even more hardcore than me.

I think that perhaps these games don't sell as well because people who play them are mostly core gamers and likely have modded systems? You guys think so?

yea i think so too...

heheheh

wii owners don't like to play games, they want to do exercise
third parties just have to realese games like madworld fit or slim fast over kill and they'll get 20mil no problem

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

yea i kinda agree with a lot of you guys, i just posted this because i only know 2 others guys that play their wii on a regular basis who i consider very much hardcore gamers and both have modded systems.

I know plenty of others with wii's...but it just gathers dust because they're mostly playing on our ps3 or 360s with us

The wii is attractive for niche games, but i bought it mainly for the nintendo brand games

Soon the Darkside will be irresistable and will crush the MS rebel scum underfoot.

The Wii owners are like Ewoks. The Evil empire will tolerate them but turn their forest moon into a secret base.

because so far the "hardcore" whatever games on wii are just too weird and dumb to be taken seriously. I don't think that Madworld or Deadly creatures or HOTD Overkill would have sold millions on the HD consoles..heck I doubt that they wouldn't even sold on the PS2. Others like Dead rising are watered ports that wii owners won't just accept that easy.

Weird games don't sell. Period. No matter the console.

Actually it was more like a steel frame building remade with a wooden frame (wood is strong, just not that strong), and they had no previous experience making such buildings (no game of that scale remade from the HD systems to the Wii before, none). It only looks watered down because of this notion porting is done from the top down, not rebuilt from the ground up (and engines only give the foundation, they don't build the house for you).

I say it was more that Capcom didn't feel like hyping a two year old game and just wanted their foot in the door on HD to Wii remaking.

As for the others, they were too niche. Madworld didn't cost a lot so it sold fince, but Deadly Creatures seemed to be too ambitious for its niche.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
