Forums - Gaming - Do you think that someday the final fantasy series will die?

Eventually, yes. Before then, though, it's got about 20 years of being a quality series, then around 10 years of instalments every year with few improvements, then ten years of being complete shit. Should end around 2050. Either Square Enix will end with it, or they'll go on and make something else good.

See: Sonic.

yes, eventually it will one day. but that day is very far off. and hopefully it ends on a good note.

"Hey, I just played Final Fantasy XXIV yesterday. It was so awesome!"
"Oh yea... wait, which one is that? The one with spiky haired main character or the female counterpart?"

"And yet, I've realized that maybe living a "decent" life means you won't ever have a "good" life."

If the trend continues with each new FF title crying "I'm bleak shadow of old myself", I hope the series will die and humanity will be safe again

A series die when it there is no more wind to push it forward... the FF series reivents it's world with every itteration, there are no sequels (until recently), so if Square did a game called Bloopers RPG instead of an FF but with the same high production values... they might as well have called it FF.
You could consider FF to be a type of games: High quality RPG from Square # XIII ... cause that is all they really are. Sure there are common principles in the stories, but other RPGs come close in story to FF too.

Same goes for the Tales series... they can do as many as they want, as long as they keep the production values high.

I agree 100%

Let's hope if it ends, it ends well. And indeed playing FF XXIV seems pretty strange...

So it'll continue in another name... Everlasting Fantasy?

The day Final Fantasy dies is the day I stop playing video games.

Anybody else find it ironic that the game is called FINAL Fantasy and yet there have been at least 20 more games since the first one?

It will never die as long as it lives on in the hearts and minds of players around the world

Out of interest, do you know how many games have "Final Fantasy" in them, out now or scheduled for release in the near future?

43. 43 games. That is approaching Mario level.
