hmm... I'm going to say this is where Sony lost some money along the way before the PS3 launch. They might have to purchase the rights to use it in the PS3. This is why we dont have ingame chat yet.

Don't you mean Cross game chat?

I could have sworn Sony sells Mics for the PS3....

Anyways...I don't understand how thy patent somthing that they never tried...

I mean really...1994...What Video Game chat..Outside any PC possibilities...

They deserve 140k pages of documents thrown at them, they are patent trolls and I hope they run out of money. Patents have no business being applied to software. I think they should have to prove that Microsoft implemented it in the exact same way stated in the patent. If they don't have a working prototype then the patent procedings should be thrown out because theres no way to prove that Microsoft did it the same way they did.

Tease.

Yes, but video game chat for consoles would probably have been through SEGA Net.

This is old news, it's happened before and we all know what's gonna be the outcome. Whoever is sueing microsoft is gonna get a few eyebrows raised but nothing serious is going to happen. No damage will come to microsoft and in about a week we'll forget this ever happened. Move along folks. I think patcher is opening up his mouth, now there's some real news.

LMFAO but its totally true. M$ isnt gonna have to pay. Xbox live is far superior and different than what these guys patented

Long Live SHIO!

the article is pretty biased.... "innocent typo".... as if a typo in legal documents were innocent.

When someone tries to milk you with a lawsuit for "X tech that looks like yours", I don't see how anything could be a dirty trick or juvenile.... you have an opportunity of setting their case back 6 months? do it!

do not EVER sue microsoft, they will do ANYTHING to not give you the money.

Rad. Tomorrow I'm going to file a patent for "teleporting from one location to another while masturbating furiously" so that when someone clears that technological hurdle, I can sue the shit out of them.

lmfao.

Wow , what did they do wrong?

^Some balance between the two, then, is needed.

I can see where my idea would be bad for those who cannot afford to make their own prototype right away, but at the same time there has to be some sort of better protection so people can't just patent every idea in the world just to sue others. Some way of deciding whether the patent is genuine? I can't really think of how they would do this......

The whole patent process is flawed because you can use a general patent and so long as your item is not "different" enough from an existing patent, you're screwed.

Yeah, shrug.

That's one hell of a pandora's box.

Proof of concept. If you can't afford to make it then you should at least be able to give proof that you have the technical ability/knowledge to be able make it. If the tech doesn't exist to implement your ideas then tough shit, you can't patent something you can't do. Sorry badgenome.
