The big thing is, this won't be a totally gimped version of the PS3 compared to the 80gb as it was for the 20gb to the 60gb.

There will still be Wi-Fi, and probably no card reader slots and only 2 usb ports. There is a possibility that with a motherboard revision that it could be a "slim" version as well. (Last sentence is pure speculation, but a possibility)

Looks like the EU are getting in on the 40GB action. With PES 08 coming out at the end of this month it may debut as the PES 08 + PS3 bundle that was announced. No news on price though.

Good move Sony - this will help sales, though I still wonder if this will do anything about the general negative hype.

so lowering a product by 200 dollars/euros (whatever) within a year is to be considered a good thing? i thought there were something called value. it would have been better if they did this with a bundle like GT or something, (in which case they needed to wait for the game), but it would turn out to show better results eventually.

I state firmly that at 300 bucks, I would buy a 80gb version.
Or one that comes with a game I might want to own, say, Resistance... well, by the time they make one 300 bucks, there will be more games I want to own.

Shrug, just giving my price points. Hopefully Mutation #3 is key and will help Sony gain marketshare.

the article says itself this is not confirmed and a document like that can easiliy be faked. Not saying it's true or not but this isn't proof.

Doesn't Guitar Hero 3 come out that day? Timed exclusivity could be one of the announcements on Oct. 12th. I don't think it will happen, but it's possible.

Other announcements....MGS4 release this year? DS3 release same day as 40gb console? GT5 pre-installed on the HDD? There are so many possibilities, so all we can do is wait.

And just to rile up leo-j and Soriku, FFVII remake announced!?!!?!!!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?! :P
