Forums - Microsoft - Will we see a Halo Wars 2?

I reckon no because:

(a) primarily, a different genre with the Halo branding would get more sales - a TPS with Gears elements or a sandbox with Crackdown elements, for example, would for sure hit 2.5mil.

(b) and... what could you really do new in HW2 that would make it a substantial step forward?

This said, however, if Microsoft could get Robot w/ a few MS Game Studios employees to knock out a sequel on a small budget, then it would definitely be worth it, since even an unambitious sequel would break 1mil and thus, on a small budget, be pleasantly profitable.

So, lol, I guess maybe also 'yes' then. Who knows? XD

I don't get what your getting at...the Halo Wars Game already turned over 1 million....I doubt it has not turned a profit....MS can Easily judge for them selves based on the online traffic and DLC downloads when A sequal should hit ...You act like this game was called Ninja Blade

Huh?

I didn't say that HW hadn't turned a profit.

I'm saying that a Halo name in a more popular genre, say TPS or sandbox, might be a more profitable future venture than a HW sequel, but that perhaps they will do a Halo name in a more popular genre and then also keep a small team with a modest budget working on a HW sequel because then even if that only crawled to 1mil LTD (due to being unambitious/not much of an update or step forward) the conditions of light staff & budget would guarantee profit; big profit from the primary venture plus small profit from an unambitious HW sequel > medium profit from a normal HW sequel.

I did not say that you said that...But I did say I did not get where you where going with your post....Here are some Example. (in Bold)As it stand the game is not 6 months old and has hit over 1mill....

What can you do in Starcraft II Or in 2 games after Warcraft that you did not in the first of both these RTS games?

For the two things you bold:

(a) to my mind, it seems likely that a sandbox or TPS Halo would sell more copies than an RTS Halo, and therefore be a more profitable venture. Therefore, I could see them not continuing the HW path but instead turning to creating a Halo game in the sandbox or TPS genres.

(b) just personal view, I suppose - I have a feeling they worked hard to cover a lot of the Halo universe in HW and that anything left out could be more efficiently provided by DLC, e.g. inclusion of Flood race, rather than by an unambitious sequel that might potentially leave fans feeling short-changed.

I don't think so... I mean, why do another RTS when a new FPS Halo could sell +5m?

Because believe it or not. It sold very well. And it would be a different studio to the one creating the FPS games. So they would be able to do both, nd make more money. Halo Wars has sold 1.32 million so far. Thats excellent by PC RTS sales as well.

And there was quite a few Ensemble employees kept on at M$ to.

I think we will see a Halo Wars 2.

1.32 millions is great sales for PC standard but not console standard - Halo Wars had a huge budget and a huge advertisement push, I doubt it even made a profit yet. PC RTS games like Empire Total War and Dawn of War had nowhere near the amount of advertisement that Halo Wars did.

With Ensemble gone, I doubt we'll ever see Halo Wars 2.

1.32m is decent. Uncharted cost $20m to make, and given that Ensemble did not have to make much art for this game, I am sure they would have saved money there. Just assuming that it gets to 1.5m, it will probably have made around $37.5m at $25 per game, would it really have cost twice as much as Uncharted? I am sure it made some profit, but nothing compared to a Halo FPS

I would very much enjoy to see another Halo Wars. However, I do not see what they could do to add to the experience. Halo itself is a very complete experience and there's not alot they could add into a sequel. DLC on the other hand.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

I trust Robot Entertainement to make a good and innovative Halo Wars 2

But for the moment, I would like them to deliver more maps and units on HW.... it is a bit short for the moment..

And 800 ms points for the other "modes" was a bit silly...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

There is no doubt in my mind that robot entertainment can innovate the game to only imagined reaches. However, the problem doesn't lie in the innovation or presentation of the game. There's always room for improvement there, the question lies will it be more of the same? There's only so many warthogs and wraiths you can put into a game before you begin to wonder if it's the same game with a new packaging. Changing the story may work yes, but would you really pay for a new game just to play a new campaign story? Maybe if it was a covenant story. But that's about it.

At 1.32million sales it's not bad by any means, but I guess MS doesn't wish to associate the Halo brand to games selling less than 4million, they don't just want it to be good, they want it HUGE.
