Forums - Nintendo - Edge gives The Conduit and Another Code: R 4/10

Edge is so random. They reckon they're the toughest reviewers out there and then they go and give Prototype an 8, despite all its flaws.

I still can't get over how they gave Far Cry 2 and FEAR 2 an 8 and Killzone 2 a 7.

I have a feeling that they, and a lot of other reviewers, pick and choose when they want to be tough.

Pretty much. Reviews are usually a good thing to go on, but too much emphasis is placed on the score, and not enough on the reviewers comments. Furthermore, sometimes review scores just outright fail, either for an individual, or as a whole.

For instance, one of my favorite games, that I've probably spent around 200 hours on, is Victoria, for PC. That game has a 59% average at Gamerankings. The reason is because (like most Paradox games) it's a very complex strategy game with an abundance of micromanagement, and a great deal of history (outside of WWII, history in video games seems to be a BIG NO NO, lol). Despite the 59%, a number of people like that type of game, thus making the 59% not really applicable to a VG niche. (BTW, I like most Paradox games, I chose Victoria because it has the lowest GR score, IIRC).

On the other end, after seeing the steady stream of 100%s for GTA4, I picked it up when I bought MGS4 + a PS3. I was disappointed, got bored and never finished it. In that case, the 100% reviews didn't really cover me well.

In short, you can have fun with a low-metacritic game, or get bored halfway through a game that reviewers seem to think is near-perfect.

I would trust Edge's review more than IGN when it comes to this game. My impression is that IGN got a little too close to this game (pushed to get it a publisher, got many exclusives, became its champion, etc). When there's that kind of relationship and it's given a good score you need to keep that in mind and look at what others say about it.

Well, it's always the best to ask people who actually had to pay for the game if you want an honest opinion instead of the easily manipulated "professionals" who might give a higher or lower score depending on the swag or the expectation/hope for exclusive information on a future game of that developer.

The general consensus seems to be that The Conduit is overall a solid game with a lacking singleplayer mode which a good online multiplayer mode makes up for. That and the fully customizable controls. The game seems to be worth its money for FPS fans who want to play one on the Wii. Not everyone likes the game, but the majority apparently does.

Wait a minute! I looked this post over few times and noticed no sarcasm.

Rol? Are you being?....

*Dare I say it*

Serious?!?!!?

When was I serious?

Gotta love good ol' Edge. I remember when they gave Killzone 2 a 7/10 and had a billion Sony fanboys bitching at them in the comments. Good times.

This magazine loses all credibility for giving Prinny a 4...ugh. Why rate the game months after it came out?

Well it was released 1 week ago in Europe...

Why focus on the negatives!
BF 1943 got a 9, thats a great score from Edge.
Now just need to decide which platform to get it on.

That is why I hate Edge. Previously I accumulated all the scores for xbox360 and ps3 exclusives and Edge consistently rated the Ps3 exclusives well bellow the Metacritic score. However, in the case of xbox360 exclusives the ratings given by Edge were either higher or on par with the scores from Metacritic. Thus, showing their bias toward ps3 games. So I wouldn't doubt if they did the same thing for the Wii.

so this is like haze on the wii? well thats bad
