see i feel, and have been saying as much, that 2012 is when the first consoles of next gen could launch, the earliest they could, i know that seems like a long time, but it is far better for the industry for them to wait, it help publishers, and it will allow all 3 consoles to have major increases in user base. 2015 the 360 could still be on the market, but i expect the 360 to be replaced at latest by 2014 right now. though things could change over the next two years, but since 2007 i have said 2012 makes sence, and ill stick to that ... gen 8 i feel we wont see till 202X though i guess it could be started by new entries in the market durring gen seven then things get all hazy like the start of last gen with the dreamcast which was done in before the cube of the box even really made it to market

looks you have to go and look at the past to know the future. A game console for a new generation is 5-7 years from the star of last gen. Most announcements for these consoles are a year before they come out. So in 2011 we will see that the next gen is starting to prepare and start. 2012 is when its in ful gear when all companies release their hardware. Meaning that the 360 will hhave o go through future systems-less support= its fast decline. The ps3 will see the same fate. The wii will go through the same thing only slower. By the time 2015 comes the 8th gen systems have doine their part in history. Next year the new systems will come. by that time the wii will be 90% dead. The other 2 died about 1-2 years after the systems were released. The wii will be dead by 2017 most likly. If future systems use motion control like wii. The wii will die even sooner. Maybe in 2013 for all we know

sigh let me go get my explination, i know the past well enough, and i feel the industry is shifting it has to, or we well enter into a prolonged crash
from me
"Ive said this many times if any of them release before 2012 there will be backlash that would most likely lead to a crash this will not only come from the general buying public, but devs, whos asset libraries will be devalued. it would not be good for the industry right now.
we are in actually a pretty good place for all three with software sales being what they are sometime this year all three should put up proffits and continue to do so till the end of the generation.
other things that work against the launch are the recession. the slide of the euro and most world monies against the yen.
on top of that there currently on going major revisions in board and ram design the like of which havent been seen since the mid 90s, this shift should be more defined by 2012 with techs less risky. it also gives time for ISPs to be upgraded and allow for smoother download of full games which is something devs want to kill the resale market (though rental of the game from a download is most likely a devs wet dream rentals on music and games make fortunes)
honestly the only one that could benifit from ending early is nintendo, since they have traditionaly made a profit out of the gate, making people upgrade would just be more cash for them, but killing a cash cow (the wii) is always dangerous. especially a cash cow they are just convincing third parties to try again, killing could harm the next console"
