If its to be released next month then surely they wouldve announced the Slim PS3 at E3. Why would Sony announce the new PSP Go thats months farther and not this?

Because PSPGo won't really hinder PSP3000's sales, whereas a PS3slim would completely kill off PS3's current sales. It won't be announced until Sony has cut down current stock to levels that taking a clearence sale price on them won't be too much of a loss.

hmmm point taken =P

September is when TGS is.

Would be great if it happened in July but obviously not true.

The manufacturers start "shipping" doesn't mean Sony will start selling it.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

i really hope this is true, my ps3 died for the second time, so ill rather get the slim

If the slim is real, this timeline would make sense for a September reveal/launch. I would think the slim would need to be launched globally since it would kill the PS3 chunky's sales.

Regarding BC, it's never going to happen through software emulation. I don't think the PS3 will be able to emulate the EE and GSX. Also, I believe many PS2 developers used non-standard approaches when developing for the PS2 in order to maximize its performance.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Oh my. If it begins production this month, that means Sony will have plenty of stock for the holidays. Combine that with a price cut on the older models and FF XIII in Japan and this may be the biggest Christmas for SCE...ever.

I want a Ps3 Fat.

Sounds like that's when mass production starts...
