I left that out for now since I haven't completed it.

But who cares, give us Phantasy Star 5 and Skies of Arcadia 2!

Why must these games be mature, anyway? Or, not just mature in Sega's case, but completely over the top?

I don't think Wii owners are demanding games filled to the brim with F-bombs and gore... hell, that's rare on the HD consoles. They should try toning it down a bit and seeing how that works.

It's not just only that. Publishers should try their hands on more popular genres when making "mature" games. Like FPS and TPS. It's baffling how after two and a half years there is a better selection of on-rail shooters than FPS and TPS on the Wii.

Everyone would laugh at the idea to bring on-rail shooters to the HD consoles because they are by far not as popular as FPS/TPS, but somehow on the Wii it seems to be a logical thought to make more of them.

It seems they are taking the Italian way of playing soccer into console strategy, they play defensive and boring untill they win ;)

I'm glad they are going to keep at it. I think they will get gradually more and more success, especially if they can make better quality titles (I own both Overkill and Madworld and I think they are definitely good, but hardly first-class titles on the level of something like Metroid Prime 3).

On HD consoles, even Million seller games may lose a company money, depending on how big the budget (and anecdotally, the PS3 is the worst offender in this case.) While Wii games, with their much reduced production costs don't need to sell nearly as many copies to turn a profit. And ANY profit is good for business.

What happens next generation to all these hardcore third-party games on Nintendo consoles?  The most successful and safest games for third-parties tend to be franchise titles but if these games can't even sell a million at $10-$20 less than typical HD titles how can they be expected to sell enough to be profitable or be viable franchises on a HD platform?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Next gen. is ages away and when it comes around its obvious ALL core games will jump on the potential for another 50 million seller console, why wouldn't they?

The next question is why would you buy a console knowing it will run 2nd or 3rd again?
Even though it has all the games you would want so does WiiHD.

There is certainly something to consider here.

The benefit with HD games is if they do well you get an immediate return on investment but for most games, they quickly nosedive off the charts after that. If the game doesn't do so well, well... your f---ed. Time to start begging someone to bankroll your next game or face bankrupcy if your a small developer and even the big boys often end up laying off staff to reduce the impact of a misfire.

Wii games on the other hand, may take longer to reimburse your initial investment but then they keep on giving and giving for a long time. That's golden as development of games can take 1-2 years so if a developer can create a series of games that have staying power, they can have a nice monthly paycheck - inbetween game launches - that they can almost bank on instead of one big payout and then nothing for another 3-5 yrs like with HD development. Also really reduces the impact of the odd misfire.

To be fair games like GTA4, CoD4&5, Halo3, Oblivion all have great staying power and the same is true for HD system but harder to achieve.

And at times, just like with the Italian way of playing football, it seems that they don't even want to win and are hoping for dumb luck.

Sadly that seems to be the truth for both Italian soccer and Wii games
