Why would anyone pay to play a FPS on Wii no matter how good? If that was the case then people would just buy The Conduit. I haven't purchased it yet but still play WaW every so often. I think most people switched from WaW to The Conduit since hardly anyone plays HCTDM on WaW (Wii) now (or a lot fewer people).

No. Monster Hunter 3 (and G) in Japan uses Pay 2 Play to online.

So then its really only for server-based play, and DLC

It makes me sad that MH3 is pay 2 play online. I hope that changes when it crosses the sea. Free online was definitely a selling point for me buying a wii. If they came out with a wii MMO I'd probably be cool with shelling out, but not really for anything else. I have yet to see some online connectivity in a wii game that I would be willing to pay for.

If Monster Hunter 3 is pay to play, there's no way I'm picking it up. Same with The Grinder, though it at least looks like The Grinder will be fun.

It would depend on game and $. I am really considering buying MH3 if it comes to NA and from what I think I have heard it will utilize the P2Play system for Wii.

RE: Grinder (FPS) and in general online w/o fc's. No I would not pay for that unless it was like $1 a year.
