Forums - Sales - Japan charts, week 26 2009, Wii Sport resort debut

Could have sold more but someone there fucked it up because it sold almost 100% of the initial shipment. Was it Nintendo not sending enough or retailers trembling with fear expecting another underperforming game? This is one of the worst news I've read all year, retailers or Nintendo doubting the sequel of a 3.5 million game, terrible.

Can I interest you in a half-empty glass of water?

trestres - Nintendo only was able to ship 250,000 copies of Wii Fit to Japan and it sold out quicker. Your problem?

Nintendo and retailers properly predicted sales. Selling 150,000 first day was well below initial shipment, and 350,000 was right at sellout status. This means that they probably have already re-ordered new stock, and it's either on it's way, or already there.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

So, if this trend holds true in the Western Markets, I guess this will confirm the new Zelda game as using M+

^Quick, quick! Trestres is suffering from a pessimism attack! This guy needs his injection, on the double!

First week sales for the Wii series games in Japan, according to VGChartz(I'm too lazy to look for Famitsu numbers):
Wii Fit - 252,510
Wii Sports - 181,902
Wii Play - 178,367
Wii Music - 106,910

Wii Sports Resort has higher week one sales than all of them, impressive.

I'm not sure what's so impressive in beating those games.

1. Wii Music is considered to be a faillure by most people.
2. Wii Sports and Wii Play were both lanuch titles. Thus they couldn't really break any record.
3. Wii Fit was supply constrained during its launch and was released on Saturday (had only 2 days of sales in its first week compared to 4 days for WiiSports).

350k is quite a good improvement compared to 155k for first day but for a sequal to 3.5  million seller 350k for first week isn't really that impressive.

but it's selling almost 100% first shipment. How big first week sale is big enough for a lifetime 3.5 million seller?

Also, the lifetime sale is not decided by first week. SMBB opened bigger than MK Wii but WK Wii is the better selling game in Japan right now.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Lol, let's hope it wasn't Nintendo's fault, that would be unforgiveable. It was most probably retailers fault, because if I remember correctly they even preordered a lot more Wii Music copies than WSR ones, and that's illogical.

This is why Wii games fail, because retailers are too scared to even preorder a guarantee 2 million seller. They preorder 1 - 2 copies and see if they sell, then 2 more copies and so on until people get pissed off and move on to the next game.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

I don't know how anyone can think a 353k debut is a bomb. For 2009, it is already among the ten best selling games in Japan now.

Nobody said it was a bomb.

@The Source: According to VGChartz it's already the 10th best selling game of the year, which will probably become the 3rd best selling one in 1 week and maybe the best selling one in 2 weeks, only to be in second place that same week after DQIX gets released
