Forums - Sony - Sony patent new B/c technology for PS3

THEY ALREADY USED EMULATION ON THE OLD B/C EUROPEAN PS3s but took it out im guessing this is so the ps2 lasts longer

is it me or did that train pass 4 years ago?

I just don't see the appeal this could have right now... PS3 has plenty of games....

They should work on making that available for the PS4... (I hope all future systems are fully retrocompatible as the DS is .... (grrr @ DSi))

Will I finally be able to play PS/PS2 games on the PS3 without finding the old one? That's good.

PS1 games all work so Im not sure why you'd need to find that one.. Unless it's to have them all together ofcourse.

@Hephaestos ...

It's just you.. Concidering the machine didn't even launch in north america or japan in 2005. Infact it launched in the end of 2006 and in 2007 in europe. So i'm not sure why the trail would have passed before that :p Especially concidering the BC models that first launched.

Don't be ridiculous. The PS3 has no games

But seriously, more games is always good. I own a PS2, but the PS3 can upscale PS2 games! Shadow of the Colossus, all artistic design aside, looks pretty awful on an HDTV in SD.

They still had half the ps2 in there. It was only 1 part of it that was software emulated... i cant remember if it was the cpu or the gpu. The american 60 gig has both the ps2 cpu and gpu inside of it.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before:

This is a patent for emulating the Emotion Engine.  For full working PS2 emulation you also need emulation for the Graphics Synthesizer.  The EU 60GB launch ps3's already emulated the Emotion Engine paired with a hardware Graphics Synthesizer.  This is not new.

i honestly dont see why they need to patent a transulator software for the PS3 lol. Is the world really that shallow it will copy and emulate ps2 games on a 360 or something haha.

I hardly use my backwards compatiblity on my PS3. It's an option that many feel they want, but if they get it, they'll probably ignore it. I know I went through extremes to make sure my PS3 had the option. Now, it's no big deal. Haven't played a PS2 game in months.

If they release a PS3 with a price cut + a bundle with Gran Turismo 5 and this new feature, I would directly sell my Wii and buy a PS3 (Currently I'm sharing a PS3 with my brother, but he's not living at home anymore, so it's difficult and I want a PS3 for my own.
