Forums - General - Germany won European Championship under21

Germany just won the European Championship under 21!!!

The final was played versus England - a VERY classic matchup since 1966. Germany played one of the best matches I have ever seen, especially for a under21-team. The defensive was unbelievable. England had almost zero chance to score.

On the other side as soon as Germany started to play offensive, they were VERY dangerous. So they won 4:0 with a very impressive performance.

Germany won the under17, under19 and under21 European Championship in 11 months. This is a first in history. So I am looking forward to the future team Germany has to offer.

The English created the game, the Germans perfected it.

"Life is but a gentle death. Fate is but a sickness that results in extinction and in the midst of all the uncertainty, lies resolve."

No Kamal, the Brazilians perfected it, although zexen and others will disagree with me.

Anyway: Impressive and very self-confident tournament by the German team (other impressive football performance this week imo: US soccer team at Confed Cup).

Deutschland uber alles.

Let me show you why they call me the velour fog. Hit it.

I met her in a club down in old Soho,

Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like coca cola,

C-o-l-a, cola.

She, walked up to me and she asked me to dance,

I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said;

Leela, L-e-e-l-a, Leela, Lee, Lee, Lee, Leela

Leeeeeeeelaaaaaaaa

To get this right, it's not illegal. It's just inappropriate to use it. The "Deutschland über Alles"-verse is the first part of the Deutschlandlied and was the National Anthem from 1922-1945. Today the German National Anthem consists only of the 3rd verse of the Deutschlandlied (Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit).

yeah Nazis used this to legitmate their claim to be over everybody else.

and it is illegal in a way:

On 7 March 1990, months before reunification, the Constitutional Court declared only the third stanza of Hoffmann von Fallersleben's poem to be protected as a national anthem under criminal law; Section 90a of the Criminal Code (Strafgesetzbuch) makes defamation of the national anthem a crime, but does not specify what the national anthem is.

That is from your quote.

But anyway: This is about the German Team, which did a impressive job yesterday. I really hope to see some of them being future stars.

In football matches, before the game, I could swear that the crowd is singing 'Deutschland, Deutschland üüübeer aaaaalllles... la lala la etc'.
Like since all the time it's been like this... back from my first time watching the World Cup in 1986.

Or is it all just happening in my head?
(maybe i was indoctrinated by all my friends here in Sweden through all the years that that is how the first line goes, but it's actually mocking of Nazi-Germany and never actually sang by officials or German crowds)
