To get this right, it's not illegal. It's just inappropriate to use it. The "Deutschland über Alles"-verse is the first part of the Deutschlandlied and was the National Anthem from 1922-1945. Today the German National Anthem consists only of the 3rd verse of the Deutschlandlied (Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit). For a translation and some background: |
In football matches, before the game, I could swear that the crowd is singing 'Deutschland, Deutschland üüübeer aaaaalllles... la lala la etc'.
Like since all the time it's been like this... back from my first time watching the World Cup in 1986.
Or is it all just happening in my head?
(maybe i was indoctrinated by all my friends here in Sweden through all the years that that is how the first line goes, but it's actually mocking of Nazi-Germany and never actually sang by officials or German crowds)
