Aparently, you completely neglected to read any of the detractor's posts.

We know that it's an action movie. Given that, we didn't expect a great story (although would it kill Bay to make a plot with less holes than a mexican highway?), we expected an action movie. That's exactly what ROTF did not deliver. Bay spreads the fight scenes out with long stretches of predictable drama and unsuccessful humor, makes each and every one of the Transformers completely interchangable, and spends more time on the question of when Ladouche's character will say "I love you," to Fox's character than he does on any single one of the transformers. I'd love to know what criteria you base your opinion that it's a better movie on.

Eh.

Optimus Prime fighting five Decepticons (killing two in the process) simultaneously can make me forgive damn near anything.

Sorry it's shit. Really, it is. Sure it has some cool action, etc. but its not even a movie let alone a film.

Plot = zero sense at all. I actually felt from scene to scene the scripwriters had forgotten what they'd written just a moment before

Narrative Structure = awful, just terrible flow that (ironically for a movie about big robots) relied on Deus Ex Machina more than any other film I can remember

Script = really awful. Just painful to watch the actors (who actually looked to be trying their best) try to sell their lines.

Plot holes = bigger than the robots, mainly because there was no real plot at all

I'm just staggered people can like it or say that the big explosions excuse all the other bad stuff. The damn thing is nothing more than a collection of unrelated scenes that the makers though would be cool.

An no, I'm not comparing it to Citizen Kane, I'm comparing it to Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Star Wars, etc. Blockbusters than actually manage to deliver thrilling, exciting entertainment and of a high quality of script, narrative, etc.

Heck, I could even compare it to itself - as while dumber than the aforementioned classics Transformers was at least a fair way better than this, with at least some attempt at a narrative.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Reasonable, the problem is that you're comparing it to good movies. Jaws, Star Wars, Raiders - these are all good movies.

Michael Bay is not capable of making a good movie.

But some of us are capable of enjoying bad movies. My whole family is capable of enjoying bad movies. I would argue that there isn't anything wrong with enjoying a bad movie.

I dont know what people are bitching about, this one was much better than the first one.

Did people forget it was an action movie?

Was anyone really expecting a great story?

If you wanted to see a movie with a great story, and you went to see Transformers 2 expecting that, then the only thing you guys should be upset about is how stupid you were for expecting that.

I did read the entire thread,  it consisted mostly of people bitching is had no story or it was a movie made by someone they hate as a movie director yet they saw it anyway and confirmed that they hated it and decided to bitch some more.  That pretty much sums it up.

Its a better movie than the first, because there are more robots, more fighting. bigger explosions, and Prime is a supreme badass in this one.   Which is all its needs to be because it is a F'N ACTION MOVIE.  It seems the only one who gets in it this entire thread is Khuutra.

Keep in mind, Vette, I'm not defending it. I'm just saying I enjoyed it in spite of (or perhaps because of) it being a bad movie.

Oh one more complaint! Why the fuck did Micheal Bay had to piss over the ancenstry of the Transformers without it being necessary! I'm talking about robot balls here.

Robot fucking balls

Why did they have to be in that scene Micheal? Did the original Transformers have actual balls? Did it serve a purpose other then the most obvious and cringe worthy of jokes in the entire movie? Stop desecrating the transformers!

Easily the worst joke in the movie, but if the original series had been PG-13 you can bet they would have made that joke with Devastator too.

I know we're on the outs, but that is an excellent post sir. I completely agree with you. I, personally, hate the movie, and have never even seen it. I know it sucks, because all Michael Bay movies suck.

That said, in the right mindset(high maybe, or drunk) I am very capable of enjoying the movie I hate(sometimes I even like playing my PS3, hehe).

Most people enjoy bad movies with great production values. That is why most people saw this load of crap.

You win this round Michael Bay. I hope Christopher Nolan cuts your horses head off and slips it under your occoupied bed sheets.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I have no problem with anyone enjoying a bad movie.  But I do object to $200 million dollars being used to make one, $200 million dollars that I would rather see spent on making good movies.

Only so many movies can be made a year, there is only so much money to go around to fund them, people to make them, theatre slots to show them.

Personally, with that amount of money, etc. then I expect the level of effort to be taken to deliver at least a good action movie.

Although, given you have a finite lifetime, wouldn't you rather spend it on something good than something bad?  If you had the choice, wouldn't you rather have given your time to something of the quality of say Raiders vs Transformers 2?

Now admitedly most people change their views with age, and at 43 (shit!) I simply won't give my time to anything that's not good, be it food, music, movies, etc. and that of course informs my views.

Of course, with kids, I do occasionally find myself watching something like Transformers 2, although at least the time was spent enjoying being with my kids so it wasn't all a waste.

Eh. Transformers 2 will end up being very, very profitable. Just think of it as potential funding for much better movies, if that makes you feel better.

And yes, given a choice, I would rather see good movies, but I think it's more to say that I would rather have a good experience. I had a good experience watching Transformers 2 with my family. Not as good as I had watching Up, but Hell, what works at that level every week?
