Forums - Gaming - Would you buy the Wii HD?

There is absolutely no point in releasing a "Wii HD"... none of the games developed for it support resolutions higher than 480p, and there's no way Nintendo would split their user base into 2 camps, especially when there'd be no improvements in the Wii's processing power.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I would buy a Wii HD if it had Zelda.

I LOVE ICELAND!

No, I clearly like how the Wii is non-HD. It makes developing games easier and it doesn't make the developers actually spend more then what they need to in this economy, espically if your game is questionable on selling well.

No but I will likely get Nintendo's next console.

I might get the next installment, not interested in a Wii upgrade, Nintendo needs to make something affordable with at least PS3 power for their next console for me to be interested which is a few years down the road and not 2010. They got me this time with their wiimote, now I want more from the company on top of that.

both the ps3 and the 360 got

standard definition support, and 360 is cheaper than the Dsi and psp bundled and psp go.

more likely 360 may leave first.

wii could release hardware upcaler.

ps3 can upscale ps1 and ps3 game up to 1080p, and 360 its 640p games like halo 3 to 1080p.

If it was just a Wii with an HDMI port for upscaling, I'm not really sure what the point of that would be.

Either way, 2010 seems a bit too early.

I see Nintendo wisely holding off on releasing an HD console until the cost of components necessary to push HD resolutions is low enough that they can set the retail price at the same price as the original Wii.

Other factors determining a release time frame would be HD set market penetration (no point if most Wii households still haven't made the switch) and any changes in projected sales for the current Wii. This holiday season will undoubtedly play a key part in their future hardware release strategy depending upon how close they are to meeting/exceeding projected sales.

If they decide to go with a two tier product approach (seems likely), I could easily see the Wii SD retailing for $99-149 by then, guaranteeing it sees continued post PS2 slim level sales.

And yes, if having an HD console meant no substandard ports and all the same multi-platform games currently being released on leading edge development platforms, I'd buy one for $250 easily.

everyone is seeing the WiiHD as a new more power console from Nintendo, but what if Nintendo follow what they've done with their DSi system?

What if WiiHD as everyone is calling it is simply an ordinary Wii but with a built in upscaler and more built in flash memory?

This way developers won't be affected at all as they won't have access to the upscaler so to them the hardware is the same, but to a consumer if they own a HD tv it would be an excellent choice, because now they won't be penalised for owning a HDtv....also it'll be cheaper for Nintendo todo and they can further prolong the systems life....well all know how cheap Nintendo is, hell the wii CPU and GPU is 10 year old tech and it's dirt cheap but does the job.

I'll just not buy it? =P
