Rumour: PSP Phone in Development

It seems Sony's consistent denial of a possible PSP Phone being development may be false, as Japanese media outlet Nikkei is reporting that a phone/gaming handheld hybrid device is in the works. According to the report, Sony has been laying the groundwork for a portable gaming handheld with full mobile communication capabilities. A project team will apparently be assembled in July, although the report did not specify which of Sony's product divisions, Sony Computer Entertainment or Sony Ericsson would be helming the development. If Nikkei's reports are indeed true, it is unlikely that we'll hear anything official about the rumored device by the end of the year, if at all.

I think its more believable now since the new PSP is ditching the UMD and it seems since the PSP Go is aimed to rival the iPod Touch so why not a PSP phone to go against the iPhone.  I dont think it'll be as successful unless it can offer more than the iPhone and looks more appealing.  Chances are the PSP phone will also be overpriced. 

Lets not hope it wont be as overpriced as the new iPhone 3S where it cost $190 to make and selling it for around $600 for it unlocked.

Sorry but no. SONY has no reason to tackle the phone market. They dont have the money for R&D costs and they are just about to release the PSP:GO. THey need to make more money off their current platforms before they will enter a new market.

I think that mobile internet capabilities similar to the Kindle might make sense. It's not a "phone" but it does use the cellular network for networking capability. The real question would be if they could negotiate a reasonable pricing scheme with network providers.
