Forums - PC Discussion - Starcraft 2 makes major announcements (and I am off the hype train)

No one has said anything about boycotting the game. I am saying that it is a pain in the ass, and I am less likely to buy i as soon as it comes out. I will still probably end up playing it. I am just not as hyped as I was before the announcement, (hence off the hype train). Blizzard has a long track record of catering to its customers. As some who has played multiplayer exclusively on LAN, the game doesn't really cater to me any more. I know I am not the only who feels this way.

When you say "No one", are you referring to yourself or the countless people over the internet that has stated that they would avoid/not buy SC2 based on blizzard's Lan decision? Because I wasn't pointing out anyone specific, much less you.

Anyways, I'd like to point out (again) to all those out there still wondering why they would take away Lan support. It's simple, there are ways to play online against people all over the world by using Lan to connect to a 3rd party match maker. Countries in Asia usually do this the most. What this does is encourage piracy and prevents blizzard from verifying legit copies of games. Also, those 3rd party match makers (like QQ) are even able to make money off the "service" which is just plain stupid.

There's absolutely no reason to hate on blizzard for trying to protect their business.

by no one I meant no one in this thread has said boycott. To be honest, I didnt know LAN could be used to play people all over the world. My personal interest is in playing a group of people in my living room. most post I have seen on the subject (not this forum) have been issues about a single net connection being able to handle multiple connections to the same place. I cant say I know for sure because I have only used LAN but it is is a cause for concern for me.
Thats why I dislike that they are discarding a system that I know works for something that might not.

(I didnt realize I missed my 100th post, dammit)

Yes I am a fan of the Playstation 3, but I am an even bigger fan of intelligent and rational dialog. (If you are up for an intelligent exchange of ideas, you are more than welcome to add me as a friend)

I don't have a problem with anyone that's dissapointed with the killing of LAN support, it's the hackers and pirates to blame, it's just that we (the people that buy legit copies) has to pay for it. That's just how it is, and it's a damn shame but it's not Blizzard's fault.

Other than that, I wasn't really implying that people in this thread were the "boycotters" either.... BUT

All from this very thread.

Not buying =/= boycotting. A boycott is a protest; these people may just have decided LAN was critical to the value of the product to them.

Not really. To boycott something is to abstain from buying, using or dealing with a certain product or maker, usually because the product/producer has or is doing something that the boycotter deems unheathly, unethical, or just can't agree with. A boycott CAN be a protest, but doesn't have to be. You don't have to go around telling everyone that starcraft2 is stupid because it doesn't have LAN and not to buy it to technically boycott the game.

In this case, people are refusing to buy starcraft2 because they believe it's wrong that Blizzard has terminated LAN support. Thus, they are boycotting the game.

I think by boycott some people mean I won't get a bootleg copy because I won't be able to play MP

I thought about buying a pencil, but I decided against it.  I boycotted that pencil?  Who knew!
