Forums - Sales - Wii and PS3 price drop, will Microsoft follow?

Esmoreit said:
Like hte others said, there will not be a Wii pricedrop anytime soon, the holiday would be the earliest but really, new colors in others/VS and bundles will be the first to go. And we would have had an announcement by now if that were the case.

But the wii should not matter in this case. DSlover already said, Nintendo doesn't care about marketshare and frankly, the competitors don't care for the wii (officially, I believe they look at the wii for various reasons but do not acknowledge it). MS and Sony both stated it is in a wholly different market. It would be like MS reacting to a DS or apple pricedrop witht he X360... ain't going to happen

Actually Nintendo do. As recent as GDC 09' Nintendo stated it's marketshare to get Developer's to develop for it, EVEN going as far as to point out that the Wii Balance Board, If it was a platform, would be close to outselling the PS3's worldwide total.

...Now on to the competitors not caring for what Nintendo and The Wii does in the Marketplace. I said you must have MISSED a lil' event that happen from June 1st to the 4th...

To the OP: I Really feel that it depends on how much Microsoft wants to bleed. Yes they were able to cut the price with probably miminal effect to the bottomline, but if then just want to compete this gen on price alone, I don't know if thats is the BEST strategy.

Ninty price cut will be about this time next year.
This year will have bundles... lots of them.

MS should save the pricecut for Natal launch.

And, what the fuck is the HD Super Wii?

Nintendo is waiting for the impact of WM+, WSR (already boosted HW sales in Japan, let's see if it's a sustained boost), MH3, new colors and bundles. Only after all that would they consider a price cut...

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

The "Massive" drop for the Wii outside of Japan is a (roughly) 6% drop compared to a period last year when the Wii saw the release of Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart and Wii Fit. Inside of Japan the release of Wii Sports Resort, Monster Hunter, and console colors is likely going to spark new demand for the console ... So, why (exactly) does the Wii need a price drop?

1: That was a reaction concerning the viability as third party support towards the balance board. If Nintendo truelly gave on marketshare they would have dropped the price by now to secure a larger footing. We know they have a pretty hefty margin on the Wii, why not drop it in exchange for more market share while still making a profit?

2: I said already, they disregard it officially but look/copy off of it in other aspects. This is one. Asfor the market, look up some old NPD spins from last year when both comeptitors were still actively smack-talking. MS and Sony both claimed at some points to be the best sellng console completely ignoring the wii. Press reports are also there that quote execs from MS/Sony that claim that they are not directly competing (Which was discarded quite effectively on these boards for instance by the Source who proved that the Wii was taking away previous Sony fans)

1.) I think you have to strike a balance between good business sense and marketshare. Nintendo gained (and gaining) Marketshare without a price cut, conversely Microsoft had lost, and was continuing to lose marketshare before their price cut. Business wise the cut did two things, Stop the bleeding of marketshare to it's competitors, and allow it to compete better using price. (whether or not thats a good strategy is another debate, lol)

Thing is Nintendo is concerned with Marketshare when it come to development. Cause lets be honest if the Wii had less marketshare then the PS3 had now, you would see all the bundling, and cuts you see from the competitors now.

2.) You know spin is just that. Excutives talking to make their respective company sound better. All the spin in the world can't change the facts. Facts are; Microsoft and Sony are new sharks in the Blue Ocean, by adopting Motion Controls, just have to see who's going to be the Killer Whale...

not exactly the blue ocean anymore, buddy.

I just realized that this poster was quoting Bruceongames ...

The average fanboy on this website has a better track record than Bruceongames and he is about as unbiased as the Sony Defence Force when it comes to predictions about the Wii.

what the hell is an HD super wii?
