Forums - Nintendo - High Voltage explains choice of "generic" look for The Conduit

I would like to hear them explain why they made it generic and ugly instead of generic and beautiful. It's the ugly part I'm really turned off on, not the artstyle in itself.

The visuals are fantastic for the system.

If you mean the artstyle..well not everyone has Retro studios talent.

Final Fantasy never has to resort to generic art styles to be a multi million seller

Final Fantasy is so generic with half the characters the only way to tell if they are male or female is if:

A:  They have breats.

B.  A bulge in their pants (even then...some of the ones that don't....)

GENERIC?!

its  one of the most evolving series ever, never have the same story, characters, music, and gameplay.

LOL.   You were being sarcastic right?  Generic is not a bad thing if it's done right.  It's music is high quality, but it's not anything "different", etc...  It's always the same story, you have to save the world, etc...

That's funny. Haven't played many Final Fantasy games lately.

generic ugh im really getting sick of hearing this word. If generic means *The same Thing as the other guy* wont that relate to a vast majority of games out there??? seriously find a different way to describe these games this is really getting old

Correction: the graphics engine is fantastic for the system.

The visuals lose on the bad design, not the choice of style. It's not about what type of paint or brush you use, it's about how well you use them. And they are in need of some talented graphical artists.

This is invisible text!

@ Riachu, Any idea how much a typical Final Fantasy game (especially the core series) costs to make, relative to The Conduit? Let's be realistic.

You don't play much, do you?

Unless you're talking about FFVI or IX (ok... IV and V are ok as well) isolated, I can't take you serious...

Anyway, the choice is easy: they tried to make an HD kind of game on the Wii, so they used the same ingredients: lots of effects, blooms, bump maps, and didn't bother about art style.

It's interesting that when a Wii game uses commonly used story elements and character designs, that it's labeled 'generic', but when a new FPS is released for the HD consoles every week and use similar design philosophies they're regarded as standard fare. Because they're in HD, with pretty particle effects, everyone overlooks the lame stories and the me-too art style. See the distinction? It's like calling someone fat, or calling them big boned.

man see. months ago I said this. Most of you are just copying me. I said this game was generic and it is generic. I said this game was designed generic and HVS even says so. I knew it I was right.

I still give this game 5/5 because it does what it is suppose to do perfectly. If you don't like Classic FPS game play then this game clearly isn't for you.

I set the trend and now you can all play catch up.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

I agreed, just not sure if I stated so. This game wasn't meant to be anything special, just give the Wii what the HD systems had. But it does seem some overlook the superior controls for graphics whoring.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

There is a good logic to the line of thinking from HV.

Most (hardcore) gamers don't buy new ip's or idea's. Most of them are hypocritical. They want something new but not really. A new, but old thing. They complain about sequels but buy them most of the time, because they know and trust the brand.
