Don't be ridiculous. Firstly, there's plenty of interest in the Sony forum, it just doesn't show because it's overshadowed by interest in other, better games. Secondly, VGC is not representative of the gaming world. Thirdly, NO games with anything resembling hype sell 350k lifetime. Lair sold 500k. Lair was crap on a disc. The controls sucked, the gameplay sucked, the framerate sucked, the lives system sucked, there was a tiny userbase on PS3, and the PS3 was failing. Despite all of this, it sold 500k. Haze sold even more. Haze sucked almost as much. MAG will not suck on those levels- it is a 256 player online game with little to no lag, decent graphics and a variety of weapons. It won't set the world on fire, but it'll get reviews in the 80s. There is no way it can sell less than a million. |
Dude Im telling you, I love MAG, i want it to sell 2 million, but it has 0 chance to sell 1 million. Hardly no one care about this game.
The excellent Enemy Terrirory: Quake War only managed to sell 250,000.
Ok realistically 500,000 is possible.

Didn't GT3 launch on a PS2 install base of around 12 Million and go on to sell well over 10M? Correct me if I am wrong.
If so, then you're userbase argument falls flat on it's face. |
Ok, GT5 10 million. It is possible. But 7.5 million is also possible.
MAG can be a success if sony pulls it off properly. resistance 2, lbp, and killzone 2 have had abysmal online to start with. if mag can go through first week with decent servers, it might do well.
MW2 is much more likely to eat up Bioshock 2 sales.
| bugrimmar said: 1.) i just don't see how uncharted will set the world on fire. resistance 2 got 450k, yes, but it's an FPS, and it was heavily frontloaded. i'm seeing uncharted going that route, slightly less first week, but more sales down the line. it just doesn't have the star power. don't go by uncharted 1 sales. it's the bundling and the fact that there just weren't enough exclusives to go by at that time. 2.) gran turismo 5 is going to sell more simply because it has included two entire franchises extra in the game. you do realize that NASCAR is the second most watched sport in the united states? the user base argument is nonsense. gran turismo will sell, regardless of current user base, regardless of when it releases. gt is one of those franchises, just like mario, just like halo. how many xbox consoles did the original halo require to sell the way it did? 3.) god of war 3 is going to sell quite well, and i'm banking on the ps3's lack of pirated games. you do realize that when the god of war games were released, it was the height of piracy on the system? and despite that, gow 1 still sold 3.3 million and gow 2 still sold 2.5 million (on this site anyway)? now you have a ridiculously hyped and advertised sequel on a console that doesn't have piracy. i'm expecting something large. |
1: I agree. Uncharted the 1st sold well because of an otherwise barren PS3 game landscape, and the bundling (of course, Uncharted 2 will get bundling eventually as well). Uncharted lacks the things that make a runaway hit.
2: Because the NASCAR watching demographic has a 500$ PS3 and a 1000$ HD TV, or are willing to spend that much money to play one game.
Oh, and your argument that GT is 'one of those games' like Mario or Halo? Super Mario Galaxy sold 8 million on a userbase of 51 million, or 15.6% of the consoles. If GT5 did as well, it would sell 3.5 million on the current 22 million userbase the PS3 has. Halo 3 sold better, at 9.8 million on a 31 million userbase, giving it 31.8% of the consoles. If GT5 did that well on the current PS3 userbase, it'd sell 7.25 million. Either way, it's hardly breaking the 15 million of GT3, and it's nowhere close to being the best selling racing game of this generation.
3: You're expecting a demographic of pirates to all own PS3s, one of the hardest current gen systems to pirate on. The reason they are pirates is because they don't like spending money on games. They aren't going to switch from a 99$ console that has free (pirated) games to a 500$ console that has 60$ games.
Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.
Acolyte of Disruption
Uncharted2
2.5 to 5ish million sales.
Single player will be great it will sell on that
online is looking fine as hell it will sale longer and last longer on the market
Its the biggest holiday PS3 release (unless GT5 makes it)
Best graphics this gen.
ND know wtf they are doing, top 3 dev in the world.
Gow of War 3
3.5/5 million.
hardcore user base will eat it up
no piracy
next to no competition for it in its genre
Last will sale best ala Halo3
Mag
1m lt give or take, Socom like sales.
Gran Turismo 5
15+ million
It rules its genre its 40$ demo sold as much as its best competitor best seller (Forza2)
Will be the only GT on PS3
Its freaking GT 52m selling franchise.
I expect GT5 to sell 7.5 million, Uncharted 2 3.5 million, God Of War III 4 million
whew, rafi's comment isn't so far fetched this time! :P
