Forums - Microsoft - Ars Mole: Microsoft to drop X360 Pro, 120GB Elite to replace it.

So lets see:

512MB Arcade? Check!

We also had rumours of a 320/500GB HDD becoming available so put a ?? beside that.

I suspect they will clear the Premium SKUs first, then drop the prices of the Elites and introduce new 120/160/180GB? Premium SKUs and finally when the Elites are almost gone they will introduce a 320/500GB Elite.

My feeling is they will make the Elite 500GB and only offer a 320GB as a HDD upgrade, so that means you can only get the Elite HDD size if you go straight to that SKU.

Tease.

Well... if they drop the Elite (120g) down to 300 to match Sony's bottom machine they'll likely drop the Arcade to 150 to keep the thing half the price.... that is unless they drop the 120gb HDD to 100 bucks.

I have predicted this for many months now - this is what will happen (starting in Sep):

X360 Pro $249 (size of harddrive I dont know, it could be 120GB)
Arcade $179

PS3 $299

U can quote me on this.

^ i'm quoting him on this (check sig)

I noted that the mole mentioned the 80GB PS3 will be really hard to find soon.

I think 160GB will be the low-end, come this holiday, which kinda goes hand-in-hand with the X360 Elite becoming the new "Pro" and the price perhaps being somewhat close. That would seem very much in line with previous years.

It depends on what the best GB/$ deal MS can get on HDDs from multiple reliable manufacturers. Ars Technica keeps an eye on HDD industry, so I bet they’d have some insight on that too.

What some people forget is that HDD prices don’t go down much over time, they increase in size. 20GB drives aren’t much cheaper to make then 60GB or 1TB drives. All the money is in the mechanisms to get it to work, not the magnetic platters that determine size.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

There is no reason why the arcade doesnt have a 20 gig HDD or atleast an SD slot..Elite coming down to same price as pro is interesting but irrelevant- unless your a huge downloader. I m more interested to see how SONY counters

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.
