Forums - Gaming - IGN says the Xbox 360 is the king RPG's right now

The 360 is indeed in the lead with RPG's. Lost Odyssey is the best RPG I've played this gen so far. Then you have Mass Effect and Tales of Vesperia (I know it's coming to PS3 but we're talking currently).

MS has done a good job bringing the fight to the Japanese console makers. RPG's are especially big in that market which is why I think MS has made a note of getting some of the best ones exclusively.

Although I will say that the Final Fantasy trio on the PS3, as well as whoever ends up getting Kingdom Hearts 3, could level this playingfield.

hmm, I love the smell of list wars in the morning, smells like console wars...

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Currently I'm playing Tales of Vesperia and Eternal Sonata on the 360, and i have to say its one of the best 1/2 punches in RPG gaming I've experienced.

That being said, I really think people are putting way too much stock in Final Fantasy Vs. 13. It isn't going to sell anywhere near as much as FF13 because the name is going to throw people off. It isn't the hardcore fans that decide a sales victory, its how well the game can appeal to a broader audience.

Whichever system markets their exclusives best is going to come out on top when it comes to RPG's. And right now it would take an epic upset for Mass Effect 2 to be knocked from its hype train throne.

It is and chances are that it will remain... to bad that only WRPGs sell considerably well, while JRPGS should stay on Wii/PS3 for better sales...

But if we realy want to e technical the DS and PSP IMO leads the 7th gen when it comes to RPGs ;)

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

ds is the king of rpgs.wii has the vc rpgs that are simple great.dragon quest 10 and monster hunter 3 are huge names,,arc rise is good,2 tales games.ps3 has versus and valkyria and maybe persona 4.at the end 360 is a good choise

It's very hard to accept it but I agree, 360 wins the battle for now.

Of course the 360 wins when compared soley to the ps3, but the truth is there's more to life than HDs.

I agree. Although I would say that the 360 is a significantly behind the PSP and DS when it comes to JRPG's...But I'm assuming this is just based on home consoles.

Yep, next gen consoles only, which have the major hardcore RPG franchises.

That's arguable...Dragon Quest IX and Pokemon are huge titles that are available on the DS. There's still some going to the PSP but there are a lot of remakes/ports  (Persona, Star Ocean, Disgaea) or side stories (Crisis Core).

Also, both Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology games for the PSP outsold the ToV and the first Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology outsold Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.

Dragon quests largest following was on the PS2 and ended there. Dragon Quest isn't a priority on the Wii, because the demographic are focused on non-hardcore games. Pokemon will be purchased by kids and still wont sell enough to be considered a threat any longer. Pokemon was huge when my generation was growing up. We're talking about the hardcore. 2 Million sold or more and growing by the core demographic.

Too... much... stupid... in one... post x_x

hahhaah DQ not sellng and pokemon not selling LMAO!!!!

JRPGs and WRPGs: 360

SRPGs: PS3

Err what? Disgaea 3 and Valkyria Chronicles?Well then I guess your right on console for VC along since I dont even think Wii or 360 have one. (Not counting PS2 Wii port of NIS game)

Though I think adding the SRPG is a little defensive.

OT:The 360 easily has the best RPG this generation since  it does have a good variety of both WRPG and JRPG. 2nd could be clost between PS3/Wii since PS3 has WRPG but barley any JRPG and Wii has JRPG but no WRPG. Bethesda game is in the works though.

Anyways its hard to argue otherwise. Yes 360 has the best lineup for RPG....lucky bastards.

A little defensive? that's all? That's like saying:

FPS and TPS: 360

NDFPS: PS3

(NDFPS = Netherlands Developed First Person Shooter)

How is it at all like that, and how is it any way defensive?

It's exactly what they said in the article. 360 has a large selection of western and japanese RPGs and the PS3 has a few good strategy RPGs.

How many SRPG's does the PS3 have?

Two.

And how many exclusive WRPGs does the 360 have? Mass Effect + Fable II = oh my God, two!

It was a harmless comment. Give me a fucking break.

Almost correct, should be: wRPGs - PC jRPG- X360 sRPG- PS3 only exlusive wRPG x360 has is Fable2 and this is one casualized streamlined RPG versus amazing Witcher and average Drakensang and Mount&Blade.
