Forums - Gaming - Scariest sounds in a game?

Man all the sounds from the original doom scared the shit out of me. During halloween i used to connect my PC to the big stereo, let the demo run, turn the volume up and scare the neighbourhood. Believe me it worked.

Notable mentions would be dead space and resident evil

F.E.A.R. 2 had the scariest sounds in recent memory. Sounds related to ghosts really creep me out and give me chills and make my hair stand on end. F.E.A.R. 2 did that a lot to me when Alma was around and the visuals timed with the sound also greatly added to the effect.

I agree the chainsaw guys in RE4 were scary and so were the robed granados at the castle when they snuck up chanting behind you. The growling of dogs in the hedge maze was freaking scary too. Nothing in RE4 that made my hair stand on end though!

Got one more. In System Shock 2 i became scared of being tricked. For example the first robot I encountered was coming up to me saying he "needed my help, needed my assistance" and then suddenly he started attacking me. I was totally caught of guard and he scared the daylights out of me. All those robots throughout the game calling for you, trying to trick you to show yourself in the hallways always sounded so scary. "Wheeeeere arrrrre youuuuu..." "We don't want to hurt you, we want to be your friend" haha or something like that. Plus the Shodan was really scary in that game too.

What's the scariest game you guys have played, one that you couldn't bring yourself to play in the dark at night?

the original silent hill

i still get goose pimples every time i hear the opening song

The weird sound the Regenarators make in RE4, so creepy! Also the clicking sound of lickers walking in RE2.

Signature goes here!

Took me about two seconds to come to this decision.

Take Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, either on the PC or the Xbox, doesn't matter.

There's a part where you have to go through some sewers in Innsmouth (bad formula already), and you know that a shoggoth is down there. You have no idea what it looks like, or what it sounds like, or anything.

When you get close to it, you enter some kind of pumping station under the city. I don't remember what it was supposed to be pumping, only that the machinery was loud. So loud that the machines drowned out the sound of the shoggoth.

I spent a solid four minutes with my back against the corner of a room, shotgun in hand, waiting in breathless anticipation of some horrible death. Maybe I thought hte machinery's sound was the shoggoth, instead. But that was the scariest sound I have ever heard in a game.

The scariest sound in a video game (or a movie) is the sound of the motion sensor in ALIEN

when u hear it.........u know
