Sony Europe boss Andrew House has declared that the platform holder will not lower the price of the PlayStation 3 until ‘the time is right,’ reiterating his belief that Europeans are not as sensitive to price as other regions.

Speaking to MCV, House said that the firm is currently focused on injecting profitability back into its PlayStation business, and a price cut will only be considered once these issues have been addressed.

“Not to harp on about it, but the PlayStation 3 has a ten-year life cycle and there are issues of cost and profitability,” said House. “We will make that move on price when all those factors are aligned.”

“Would people buy more when they are cheaper? Of course. But on the other hand there is an inherent marketing challenge. In Europe I think people do see the value of the machine, the Blu-Ray and network services and take that all into consideration instead of just focusing on price.”

“But we will look at price and will address it when the time is right,” he concluded.

For most of you who are eager to get your hands on a playstation 3 but can not afford one now, hang in there.

I guess this means 100 dollars price cut for us and 50 euro for europe.. if any.

why 50 for europe? god we pay 1.4 times as much on EVERYTHING, the games, accesoiries, hardware? its becoming bullshit...

If they can't move the price down they should add a good pack in game of something everybody wants such as Infamous, Killzone 2, LBP, or even better Modern Warfare 2 or even Madden 10. A $400 console gains a ton of value with a $60 game included for free. (and it adds very little in actual cost.)

Why ? Simple.. We still buy things.. we're used to paying more so we continue to buy it even though it's more expensive..

Also taxes :p

Anyways the taxes more often than not goes towards what makes some european countries (Such as Denmark) have the best infrastructure in the world.

i am importing games very often, thanks to ps3´s and 360´s overregion-capability.^^
so youre paying more, if you buy in europe. But outside.. ;)

i think they´ll cut the European Price for the same ammount as they will the american. Pricing was equal in numbers, the whole last years. why should they change it now?

With the hubbub and foot stomping that goes on, it seems I'm one of a few who sees this being a logical move.

A $50 dollar price drop and a Killzone 2 pack in would net them at least this consumer. That or a $100 dollar price cut. When the time is right for that, sign me up!
