Forums - Nintendo - Conduit: Kinda fun, but underwhelming and outdated.

As for the person who asked if I had tried multiplayer, I'm not really a big fan of multiplayer. I'm more of a 1p guy. Anyway, I don't have wi-fi, so I'm not connected to the net with my Wii. My PS3 is connected through a wired connection.

Why don't you do this? Whenever you are not using your PS3s connection, why don't you plug it up into the Wii.

Nothing will happen when you unplug your PS3s connection, just plug it back in the Ps3 whenever you want to use it again.

I own a PS3 as well btw, but I'm on a wireless connection.

Multiplayer is actually the selling point of this game, you are missing out.

I refuse to spend the extra money for the ethernet adapter for the Wii.  The Wii should have had an ethernet port built in.

Btw, you do know why "regenerating health " was implemented, right? The games that tend to use them need to scale down polys to speed up framerate, so they reduce item objects in the game. With regenerating health, they can kill off all health related objects, freeing up a few thousand polys and reducing scripting needs.

Wait...really?!?

 The gameplay/controls are blah

Why? You can customize your controls and the customization is the best that I saw in my entire life...

The controls are the best controls for an FPS EVER, IMHO.

At least so far, I think MoHH2 controls are better.  I thought for sure I'd be able to lean out from cover.

Can't you just strafe, go back, then straffe again? I really don't get why people find leaning mechanics so interesting... The customization goes far beyond anything comprehensible. You get to set your own dead-zones, set all sensetivities, speed, map out everything, completely move/fade/remove your HUD, and MORE! It's amazing! I wish every wii FPS in the future would give you this much customization...

I thought I'd be able to set actions to a whole array of motions.  I already mentioned I want to lean out of cover.  I also would like to be able to set reload to a quick shake of the remote.  The only motions they give you are a throwing motion for a grenade and a thrust motion for melee.

I wont say thats EVERY FPS' reasong for regenerating health, but its a known trick for artists to reduce polys, as well as have fewer items using "spwaning" scripts. Im sure some devs thought it was just cool and were copying other games that used ot for the above-mentioned reason. It started out as a poly-reduction trick back in the day, but now it's somewhat trendy, and a way to dumb the game down and give the newbies a fair shot against "campers"

...and another thing. Why can't I set crouch to toggle? This was a major beef of mine for the original Resistance on the PS3 as well.

Huh. That possibility would never have occured to me.

Too bad everyone and their mother is using it now. I kind of liked having to pick up health packs: it made it harder to go on a roll in multiplayer.

Yeah Im not much of a fan of regenerating health. Our FPS will have health items.

I was seriously torn today between getting The Conduit or getting Grand Slam Tennis.  Man...I should've gotten tennis.  Let me start off by saying I think that Metroid Prime 3 is fantastic (I plan on getting the trilogy) and so is Medal of Honor Heroes 2, so my feelings on The Conduit so far have nothing to do with "being spoiled" by the HD FPS games.  The graphics are blah.  Bland repetitive environments.  I thought this was supposed to be a stunning looking Wii title.  The gameplay/controls are blah.  Same few enemies over and over with pretty stupid AI.  Why can't I twist the remote or nunchuck to lean out of cover like in MoHH2?  Health pickups?  Are you kidding me?  Get up to speed with modern shooters that have regenerating health.

Since there's some fun to be had, I'll definitely stick with the game and beat it at least once, maybe twice to get my money's worth.  Most likely, this one won't earn a permanent spot in my library.  It will probably end up as trade fodder towards a more worthy title.  Don't believe the hype on this one.  Sorry, I know I'll probably take a lot of heat for this.

First of all The Conduit is superior to Medal of Honor Heroes in every way.  How are the gameplay controls blah?... they're more intuative than any other FPS on Wii.  The AI in this game actually isn't bad, I've had to put up more of a fight than I ever thought I would on certain parts.  The game has health packs and regenerative health when Ford has the suit on.  I will say environments can be repetative at times.

As a whole I'd say so far out of what I've played this is a great game that's just plain fun.

I've played The Conduit for a couple of hours now, and I think I have more mixed feelings about it than anyone else I have seen ...

From my play-time, I think it is fairly obvious that The Conduit was developed on a tight budget and timeline by a team that doesn't have much experience developing games for the genre; or high profile games in general. Although the game is full of rough edges, it is still very enjoyable and High Voltage has a very solid base that they can build off of with future titles. I hope the game does well enough to build some confidence with their publisher so they can get a better budget and looser timeline; and I hope they're looking to poach off some talent from some studios who have more experience in order to mentor their team to greater heights.
