Forums - Gaming - Frustration with PS3 Begining to Show?

The ps3 is doing fine. This Fall when GT5 is released there will be a massive hardware sale increase.

Around the Network

To be clear with my answer to the OP, the frustration over the PS3 has been showing for a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNGGGG time, from all of its champions, including Sony. Nothing has began here. Why do you think this generation is so polarizing? The PS3 didn't live up to the PS2, and people had the sheer audacity to claim that MS's console was almost as good, and cheaper, so the PS3 fans have gone on a massive press campaign, in order to diminish competition's standing in general perception, and damage control all of the PS3s faults...even undefendable faults, like the price. In that case, we are asked by PS3 fans to put ourselves in Sony's shoes. We can't, afterall, ask a multimillion dollar company to spend money on its hardcore fan press-team(despite the fact that we have spent thousands of dollars on their products over the years, and bought PS3s for 599 US dollars). We must support them with as much money as we can raise. They are a business afterall, and if the end result is we pay more for less, then that is how it must be. Otherwise, Sony would have to lose more of their profit, in their attempt to make us adopt blu-ray at the expense of the Playstation brand.

I have heard "Year of the PS3" too much. I am not sure when it is coming anymore.

When it comes to games 2008 and 2009 can be considered the years of the PS3

""Year of the PS3" kept being shouted by the likes of Kaz and company and echoed in the forums by devote fans."

that doesn't sound like the kasz i know.

Let's be real, before this generation started, PS3 was the pressumed market leader. Which is understandable, PS2 was a great success, so why wouldn't PS3 be expected to follow in those footsteps? Massive amounts of money and resources were invested into the PS3 before the system even launched. Once out the gate, PS3 did not catch fire right away, and most expected the slow start would eventually boom with the release of much anticipated titles. This did not happen.

Phrases such as "Sony on a ten year plan" "Quality vs quantity" (reminiscent of the N64 days and Howard Lincoln) "Year of the PS3" kept being shouted by the likes of Kaz and company and echoed in the forums by devote fans.

Now most recently, Activision CEO has "threatened" Sony with dropping support if Sony doesn't drop price. I feel this is an empty threat. I also feel this is a cry of frustration because the PS3 hasn't taken off like many expected it to. Activision is entangled with the PS3, whether they like it or not. Sony is not going to drop the price because some third party CEO is frustrated. Sony may not drop the price this year period. I think they are going to wait on how PSP Go sells before looking to drop the price.

We'll see what happens. I wonder if other CEO's from other companies will begin attempting to put pressure on Sony.

That CEO is the CEO of the biggest 3rd party publisher of video games. They also control many very big franchises like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Tony Hawk. You can't just write of Activision like they are some no name developer.

"Call of Duty"? "World of WarCraft"? You made those names up, sir. I don't think anyone's ever heard of those games. As for this "Activision" you speak of, whoever they are, they are of no consequence!

Maybe it might be a good thing if Activision did slap Sony in the face. Sony basically made a console that was developer unfriendly and then had the audacity to put a high price tag on it. If third-parties dropped support you can bet other companies would think twice about taking developers for granted.

If you can't tell that Activision is just bluffing, then I really don't know what to say anymore.

It is bluffing, but it still can pull it through for long-term gains (that most likely would force Sony to drop royalties). Besides, how important would you consider Activision-Blizzard to PS4 or Sonys new motion controller?

this is a damn fine post. Enough said

Long Live SHIO!

THERE IS NO YEAR OF THE PS3.

You think you all learned this when Nintendo stomped Sony every year since the systems launch.

Seriously the majority of videogame customers, dont care about the PS3.

Just look at it. Software sales are lower than the other two, sales are pretty much stuck in third place. Yeah sounds like a real wonderful place to be when your main goal as a company is TO SELL YOUR PRODUCTS.

Yet we still get the same stupid comments and arguments on this forum and many others (because most people in the REAL WORLD have to come to acceptance) about how this is the year of the PS3. Not going to happen. Let it go.

That's not the claim.

The claim is that 360 is better hardware nevermind that it's loud and breaks a lot, with better online nevermind that it's pay-to-play, that it has more games nevermind that it released first (causing the hardware problems by trying to be the fastest it could be), that it's a success and the PS3 a failure nevermind that PS3 has sold faster since launch at higher price, that HD-DVD is awesome HD movies aren't worth shit nevermind that Blu-Ray is growing well in the midst of a recession, that HDMI doesn't matter, oh nevermind: 360 can do 1080p too, that PS3 is too expensive nevermind that XBLive and possible 360 accessories can rocket the price of 360 above that of PS3, that Blu-Ray is the cause of all woes even though the drive is not a large component of console cost nowadays, that Sony copies Nintendo nevermind where MS got the idea for a different control scheme and Sony will get their proposed new controls out first, that Sony hates their customers nevermind Linux and the PS3's universal hard drive vs. the proprietary expensive hard drives of 360, and loads of other FUD I can't remember off the top of my head.

So yeah, frustration at certain things has been around for a while.  (Including that the yen is still historically quite strong, which has a huge impact upon the price of PS3 in US dollars.)

Another thing that has been around for a while is FUD.

Hey question, if MS had put an HD DVD drive or Blu-Ray drive in 360 and launched later and gotten crushed by PS3, would you hate microsoft?  For getting crushed, or specifically for including a high-capacity disk format that could play HD movies in their console?

I would hate Microsoft for trying to pitch me on the purchase of Blu-Ray, and indeed forcing me to buy Blu-Ray despite the fact that it is entirely needless for gaming, and in most cases, also completely useless, with mandatory installs and all.

You see, if MS forced us to pay extra and buy a Blu-Ray device, in order for them to help the new device become better adopted and more popular, then they would have been screwing over the gamers, in favor of their own new unrelated product. They would be making gamers pay for their new thing, by requiring a purchase of it, with their new gaming console, despite it being a totally seperate thing alltogether. It would be like Microsoft making me buy a pair of 200 dollar wireless headphones with the next Xbox 360. Sure, those headphones could convievably have a use in gaming, but they are completely needless, and Microsoft is only making us buy them because they know we will, and they don't care about the customers they lose because they refuse to buy the stupid, expensive, pointless, and completely out of left field, heaphones.

That is why I would hate Microsoft, and smile at every failure their stupid headphones would have cost them.

I dont care if they lower the price or not. Ive already have a PS3, so why should i care. Why cant we argue about the price of games instead? I think Sony should lower the price on games! That would make a huge boost!

You should care because you own the console, so you want it to sell well, garner 3rd party support, and generally be considered a success, I would assume.

I'm all for supporting 3rd Parties. But I'd like free cookies to go with the milked franchises that Activision put out. Namely the "hero" brand.

Guitar Hero Metallica
Guitar Hero Van Halen
DJ Hero
Band Hero
Guitar Hero Modern Hits
Guitar Hero 5.
Guitar Hero Smash Hits

....
Throw in the yearly installment of CoD/MW and Prototype and that's all I know about Activision releasing this year...I don't mind a yearly installment of a game, Ratchet & Clank is one of my favorite series but damn. There are more "Hero" games out there then there are Ratchet & Clank games..and in about half of the time too.

They are releasing Prototype, Diablo III, Starcraft II, and Modern Warfare 2 this year. Is that enough, lol?
