Forums - Gaming - Frustration with PS3 Begining to Show?

If you can't tell that Activision is just bluffing, then I really don't know what to say anymore.

It is bluffing, but it still can pull it through for long-term gains (that most likely would force Sony to drop royalties). Besides, how important would you consider Activision-Blizzard to PS4 or Sonys new motion controller?

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

We still haven't hit the phase when we have a bunch of people saying that Sony would be better off as a third party publisher rather than as a console manufacturer.

Sony would fail as 3rd party, too. Their games would probably cost more bucks than Guitar Hero bundle lol.

Activision will be VERY important in the next gen. They're profitable unlike many other publishers, so they'll probably become even more of a powerhouse.

Let's be real, before this generation started, PS3 was the pressumed market leader. Which is understandable, PS2 was a great success, so why wouldn't PS3 be expected to follow in those footsteps? Massive amounts of money and resources were invested into the PS3 before the system even launched. Once out the gate, PS3 did not catch fire right away, and most expected the slow start would eventually boom with the release of much anticipated titles. This did not happen.

Phrases such as "Sony on a ten year plan" "Quality vs quantity" (reminiscent of the N64 days and Howard Lincoln) "Year of the PS3" kept being shouted by the likes of Kaz and company and echoed in the forums by devote fans.

Now most recently, Activision CEO has "threatened" Sony with dropping support if Sony doesn't drop price. I feel this is an empty threat. I also feel this is a cry of frustration because the PS3 hasn't taken off like many expected it to. Activision is entangled with the PS3, whether they like it or not. Sony is not going to drop the price because some third party CEO is frustrated. Sony may not drop the price this year period. I think they are going to wait on how PSP Go sells before looking to drop the price.

We'll see what happens. I wonder if other CEO's from other companies will begin attempting to put pressure on Sony.

That CEO is the CEO of the biggest 3rd party publisher of video games. They also control many very big franchises like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Tony Hawk. You can't just write of Activision like they are some no name developer.

I have heard "Year of the PS3" too much. I am not sure when it is coming anymore.

When it comes to games 2008 and 2009 can be considered the years of the PS3

Well, when you say "year of XXX" you are usually saying that said console has better software releases than its competitors, in which case that is at best arguable, and honestly, completely false. If GT5 does come out this year, I think the PS3 might have a chance to save face for Xmas though.

Anyway, to you, Leo-J, I bet you think 2010 will be the year of the PS3 too, 2011....every year.

Tell me, Leo-J, when was the year of the Gamecube.

You're absolutely right. I should have put quotations or something to show how I was being facetious.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I dont care if they lower the price or not. Ive already have a PS3, so why should i care. Why cant we argue about the price of games instead? I think Sony should lower the price on games! That would make a huge boost!

You should care because you own the console, so you want it to sell well, garner 3rd party support, and generally be considered a success, I would assume.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I think the frustration has been showing for a while. I seem to remember a few 3rd parties mention PS3 price cuts, but never any threats like this. I think they should let Sony handle their own business though and not push for a price cut. Sony will when they are able to afford it or be best helped by one.
