Forums - Sony - SCEA Responds to Activision (Not the "no response" from SCEE) Pimp slap !

Sony 1 Activision 0

Around the Network

Activision would still put their CoD and GH games on the PS3, unless they don't like money, and honestly, no one cares about their other games...

Oh yeah, they really roasted Activision....NOT~!

Honestly, that is such a weak response, imo. Sony knows who butters their bread.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Some people care about Diablo III, World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, Tony Hawk, Wolfenstein, Prototype, James Bond games, Neversoft games, Infinity Ward games, stuff like that, BESIDES DJ Hero, Guitar Hero 5, Guitar Hero Metallica, Modern Warfare 1 and 2....ya know.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

What the hell. There are two things I can't believe here...

1. Pimp slap? What? They basically said "No, you are wrong, we are right"... I hardly think that is going to change Activision's mind, and I don't see any "epic pwnage" or "win" anywhere here. I don't know what you guys are seeing, but give me some of what you're having, please.

2. How can anybody in their right mind act as if Activision abandoning Sony platforms would not be a big deal? Sure, you can assume they're bluffing-- Because I wouldn't be surprised if they are-- but if this isn't a bluff, how could you possibly try to rationalise that it doesn't matter? Activison are the biggest third-party publisher, and them leaving would most likely cause a massive change to the support of the PS3, with a lot of other publishers following suit.

Even if we were to completely ignore that fact, and act as if Activision have no pull, they still have a lot of games. Call of Duty and Guitar Hero are the most noteworthy ones, but Sony would also lose games such as the Tony Hawk franchise, Spider-Man games and all Spyro and Crash Bandicoot games. Sure, those series aren't what they used to be, but a lot of smaller franchises together will make a difference and you know it. And as I said earlier, CoD and GH are big deals and should not be ignored. People need to stop sweeping this under the rug. It may be an empty threat, it probably is an empty threat, but if it isn't there is no feasible way whatsoever that it is not going to be a big deal and hurt Sony very badly.

I was obviously talking about Ps3 games so that rules out Diablo III, WoW, Starcraft 2. I wouldn't say Tony Hawk is all that popular anymore, though it might change with the newest one. Is there even a Wolfenstein game in developent, let alone coming to the Ps3? We don't know how big Prototype is yet, and it's already on the Ps3. Other then Goldeneye the James Bond games haven't been best sellers. I'm not sure who Neversoft is. Infinity Ward mainly does Modern Warfare anyway...

Yeah... that didn't change much

A Sony executive also mentioned not too long after E3 that they think adding value to the console doesn't have to be dropping the price. So perhaps Sony plan to boost sales with bundles and/or a slim model/new colours.

Another thing to consider is Sony as a company rarely makes it's sales projections.. So just because Sony say they think PS3 will beat last year by 30% doesn't make it so..

With the whole Activision business, it's true that the Playstation 3 doesn't bring in the revenue stream that Wii and 360 do but Activision won't just drop the PS3.. Although Tony Hawk RIDE is exclusive to 360 in the UK is it not? Perhaps they're testing the waters? Who knows.. It is a serious matter and it if the worlds biggest developers have no faith in the PS3 and are stating publicly that they are considering dropping support to the console, well yeah Sony do have some problems on their hands mostly to do with consumer reaction if word gets out to the mainstream consumer..

To me Activision CEO is only trying to save his butt. After the Brutal Legend debacle and the not-so-wise idea from Kotick to sue Double Fine afterwards I can easily picture some investors wanting his head on a platter.

Crossed out the games that would not be affected. Either they're already out/they'll release anyway or because they're pc games... made by blizzard.

Also i can cross out infinity ward because activision wouldn't drop cod support since they'd loose a large part of their customer base.

That leaves.. Tony hawk (skate is spanking this franchise that's fallen far from it's former glory) .. James bond games.. However sony owns james bond don't they ? and with the new united sony they could pull that from them easily... i'll cross them out too

So..

We have Neversoft games, Tony hawk games ... .. And stuff like that <-- aparently.

That's you know. It wouldn't be good but they'd never pull their full support and even if they did sony owns a lot of the stuff they makes games for.. like spider man and other licensed games and they would loose tons of money from all the big franchises pulled.

Check out my game about moles ^

Sony can't really say much about the price cut... It's a difficult balancing act between keeping interest on the PS3 and not cutting prices too fast which would leave them with no options in a few years (basically people would start expecting a big price cut every year).

I get what you're saying although I don't think people would be expecting a price cut every year if the PS3 gets a reduction now simply because at this point a price cut is long overdue. Seems like they have held out as long as it was necessary because they haven't lowered the price in almost 2 years and are hence in a much better position now financially.
