Forums - Nintendo - High Voltage - we're proving that the Wii isn't underpowered

...To me developers this year have been trying to impress with their Wii games. I don't know if HVS was the spark or the fact that the Wii was for real, but they have really tried. Also too, for people that follow metacritic, the average metascore for Wii games has once again increased over last year.

sidenote: I know this much, they have been advertising and are going after the 18 to 34 demo with the times they do. That trailer for the Conduit in the OP is the commercial ad btw, I think it's a good choice.

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

For me 85+ on metacritic is amazing and I know that The Conduit will get that. I will get even though it is not 85+ but I would be proud to own the game if it was 85+ or atleast a 9 from IGN.

I've never believe the Wii was underpowered... it just doesn't do HD resolutions. If it could do HD resolutions, then the rest of the hardware would have to be beefed up to render the textures, etc., but the current hardware is perfectly fine for making great games that run at 480p.

Split screen online been done with Call of Duty World at War on Wii.  Yes, Wii can do it to... punchanalla in your shoe.

Wrong.   CoDWaW does NOT support split-screen on Wii (just the HD consoles).   Quantum of Solace however does, and uses the same engine.

Personally I'm thankful for HVS for trying their best to push Wii as far as they could. There are better developers that could probably push it even further (Capcom - MH3) as I'm sure Grinder will do to.

I'm sick of Wii getting 2nd rate development teams and gimped games. HVS is no rockstar of the industry but at least they are trying their best and are super passionate about making a great Wii game.

Now if they were just not so full of themselves. They've gotten a little too caught up in their own hype.

this is funny, because the wii's graphical capability is severely underpowered when compared to the other consoles in it's generation, it has to be taken in context.

You can't just say "the Wii isn't underpowered" and then conveniently forget the 360 or PS3.

The Wii was, and is always going to be behind the 360/PS3 - purely because of the lower resolution. There is no getting around this. But its an intentional decision on Nintendo's behalf, to trade off cost for fidelity (its no different from the comparison of a cheap DVD player/DVD vrs BluRay player/BluRay discs).

Bunch of FUD.  I have a 360, and was expecting to see all these great graphics people talk abount.  It's not really much better than the Wii when all you have is a SD TV.  Also, the better Wii games have better graphics than some of the lower quality graphics on the 360.  A well written Wii game has better graphics than an ok 360 game.

You could say on average or even most of the time the 360/PS3 have better graphics, but not *always*.

The Wii can render at 640x480p, and there are some PS3 games that actually render at a lower horizontal res than that and upscale in hardware.  Granted, it would be fairly rare for a port to all 3 systems for the wii to have the best graphics, but there are plenty of cases where an exclusive wii game has better graphics than a multi-platform PS3/360 game.

I really appreciate what HVS are doing with their games. Thank god for them, we need more 3rd parties like that.

Still, none of their games have anything on Mario Galaxy 2, that game looks like it'll have the best graphics on Wii, period. :)

Well that's the problem, you're losing so much visual detail when playing HD games on SDtv, you need HD resolutions to show the detail otherwise it defeats the point of going HD.

I know, when I moved from an SD tv to a HDtv, I saw a big diffirence in the visuals, from good quality PS3 games, after all shit games will look shit no matter what machine their on.

Also, your saying that "the better Wii games have better graphics than some of the lower quality graphics on the 360", in other words a wii game needs to be AAA or closer to look better than a low quality a.k.a shit 360 game, but that's like comparing delicious ice cream to a pile of shit, it's apples and oranges. Why not compare AAA games for both machines...easy cuz the 360 AAA would win out of course and defeat your argument.

It's a simply fact that the wii is underpowered when compared to the competition, but that's how Nintendo designed it, they weren't going for raw power unlike the competition, they were going for a new control scheme, and that worked out marvelous for them.

" You can avoid the manual entry of Friend Codes either through sending Console Friend Requests, or by sending an in-game Friend Request to a Friend of a Friend. "

Sending a Console Friend request--does that mean you can automatically send a 'this guy wants to be your friend' request to their Wii, or is it a fancy way of saying that you can trade numbers? Because currently, if you want to add someone to your console's friend list, you both have to add each other with no notification from the game.

So... true friend requests inbound?
