Forums - Sony - Rumor: Sony to acquire new 2nd party developer

It's supposed to be a fairly big developer so it wouldn't be From Software.

After the surprise hit of Demon Soul, From Software could be one of the strong contender too..

But it still doesnt sound right. Its wrong for Sony as they r loosing money and its wrong for developer because Sony is no more a dominant force rather they r deadlast.. so they r restricting themselves.

But If sony really do it then it will be awesome.

Also, From Software are putting their 2 of the Tenchu games, 3 Armored Cores and another port of a PS2 game on the PSP over the next year or so. I could imagine From Software going to be 2nd party.

we might have a Winner

From Software is hardly a 'feather' in sony's cap, with a few notable exception, the company's game are generally mediocre and not very successful commercially. If it wasn't for the blogger mentioning 'RPG' I would have said that Tecmo-Koei fit the bill more nicely. They're relatively big, have some great franchises that seems to sell the most on Sony Platform (the Dynasty Series anyways) and scoring them would be a nice coup (though still not ground breakin)

I call bullshit until we have more credible sources.

my choice is GameArts

from software is a huge company. they have 360,wii, and ds devs. i can not see sony making them second party.

that is alot of laid off people. I hope they don't do it

They haven't made a DS game since 2007, and their only WIi and 360 games (aside from multiplats) are NInja Blade, Tenchu Z, and Tenchu: Shadow Assassin.

The lions share of their current support comes from the PSP, with the only non-PSP games they've worked on recently being Ninja Blade and Demon's Souls.  They currently have nothing announced aside from these PSP games.  The likelihood of plenty of people being laid off if such a move were to occur is slim.  If anything, they'd just move the workforce to Sony's platforms.

That being said, I don't think this would ever happen.  While they may be focusing heavily on Sony's platforms at the moment, they have little involvement with Sony themselves, and they have equal involvement with Microsoft (Demon's Souls and Ninja Blade).  But, like I said in my earlier post, I think it'd be a good thing for From if it did happen.  They make great games, and they need a good publisher to back them up.

Its probably Nippon Ichi.

Guys, if this is going to happen, it's probably going to be a company that they are already heavily involved with. Sony has never bought anybody out of the blue (except for Pysgonosis WAY back in the 90s, and Pysgonosis acted relatively independent from Sony for awhile after the merger).

Their most recent purchases have been Guerrilla Games (2006), Zipper Int. (2006), and Evolution Studios (2007), all companies that they had published at least two games for before moving on to acquire them.

Are we forgetting Sony is hurting in the wallet area?
