Wow, way to necrobump! :p

I'm currently playing through the Trilogy and find the games to be much easier that the GameCube versions, I've completed Prime 1 and breezed through it, compared to the way I struggled with the original. It's mainly due to the controls, they make for a much more comfortable, easier and faster experience. I couldn't believe how fast the final boss in Prime 1 went down. The hardest ones for me in that game were the Omage Pirate and Ridley.

Right now I'm on Prime 2, and whereas I stopped way early in the original game and never looked back (never even made it into Dark Aether), I'm finding the Wii version infinitely more enjoyable, again, due to the controls. I've heard some things about how hard the Boost Ball Boss and the final boss are supposed to be, so I wonder how I'll fare against them.

After 2 I'll get started on Corruption, even though I already played and completed the first version. Then I'll probably have a more complete picture of how the games stack up against each other, with all having the same controls.

Also, I think one of the things that make the games hard is the lack of save stations, they're very sparse, few and far between, so if you do happen to die, you'll have to replay a large chunk of game, which might put some people off. I know it did me on the original Prime 1 and especially 2. Still, they're part of what makes Metroid Metroid.

1) What does necrobump mean? (I'm specifically curious about the necro part)

2) Let's get this thread going again so please send updates about how you're finding MP:Trilogy. Unfortunately it's not available in my country.

3) It's important not to have too many save stations as that'll decrease the suspense big time. MP3 had too many imo.

1. "verb: (internet) To revive a long dormant forum thread by adding a new post, thus bringing it to the top of the forum list. Often a tactic of trolls attempting to control a forum" *Not saying you're trolling, at all. That's just a definition of it I found. ;)

2. Agreed. I'm finding it to be one of the greatest experiences in gaming currently on offer. :) Also, that's just not right! :o How dare they not sell it there... I highly advise you to see if you can somehow get your hands on it...

3. Yeah I know, that's why I said it's part of what makes Metroid Metroid. I like it the way it is, it's just that sometimes, during hard parts of the game, it can be irritating to have to go through a lengthy section of the game again without any way of saving. The Metroids are games you're gonna have to really sit down and take your time to play, not for short bursts, but that's fine by me. :)

2) Yeah it sucks big time. I'm going to check if some shop can import it for me as soon as I move into my new flat (2 weeks from now)

3) I fully agree. It's a question of balance for the devs I guess. In Echoes I put the controller down a few times for long periods because of this. Still, with a game as classy as this I don't mind that much and the added suspense is totally worth it.

Are you playing on a HD TV? How does it hold up? How does 1 and 2 compare to 3 visually?

Is there an official Metroid Prime 3: Corruption thread!?

If you find all of the Energy Tanks as you go along, no. Otherwise yes.

I cut all the quotes short, it was getting a bit messy and long for my tastes. :p

Yeah I have an HD TV, I play in 480p widescreen, the whole shebang. :) It looks absolutely sweet. The widescreen alone adds a whole lot to the games, imho, I used to have a (non-HD) widescreen tv back in the 'Cube days and always disliked playing games in 4:3 ratio, but now, that's solved.

Visually, you can see Corruption's a better game, but Prime 1 and 2 look both really nice as well. Way better than most games on the Wii, even the quality ones, and that says a lot. Prime 1 has added bloom lighting now, which looks pretty, and load times are much faster. I've never had to wait more than like 1 second before doors opened when I shot at them (most open instantly), while in the original you'd sometimes have to wait much longer for them to open. Prime 2, due to some technical challenge hasn't got bloom lighting, but still looks sweet.

Also the whole thing just feels much crisper and cleaner, which can also be seen in the textures, which imo look quite a bit sharper in Trilogy than in the 'Cube games.

They definitely don't feel like older games when you're playing them, the graphics holp up pretty nicely, and the controls really, truly suit the gameplay. While Corruption indeed looks prettier and more detailed, the older games feel and look like they were designed for Wii as well, which is a feat in and of itself.

The only thing that's worse than in the originals is the switching between beams and visors, which is now a bit more awkward and takes longer compared to how it used to be done. But I admire the way Retro solved this and worked with the limited amount of buttons on the Wiimote.

As for an original thread, dunno if there is one actually... There is a Trilogy voucher thread, but if there's another one anyone pointing it out would be welcome. :p
