I dont see WSR selling anywhere near as much as people think it is and its not gonna move hardware especially not in Japan.
Its gonna be successful just not Wii Sports or Wii Fit successful.

I can see why you would think it may not get to 30 million. However Wii Fit has sold 20 million units after 1 year. There is a decent chance that Wii Sports Resort will sell 30 million+.
There are some individuals that like wii sports but don't have a wii. Seeing wii sports resort might just take them over the fence and buy a wii.

People said that about Wii Fit and it seems that they were probably wrong considering how much it has sold so far. People even said that about the Wii itself and they were dead wrong. Try not to put your foot in your mouth.

I actually agree with this.
I don't know to what extent, if any, WSR will actually boost Wii sales. However, I said the same thing about Halo 3 and other games where you'd think the software will sell to millions of existing platform owners but not have any significant boost on hardware.
We'll just have to see.
The thing is, when dealing with the mass market you constantly need to be doing something to engage their imagination and tantalize them into getting your product.
Wii Sports definately succeeded in doing that to fantastic success but irregardless of if someone bought a Wii for it or only wanted to, it's now old hat and forgotten.
How much of a system seller WSR will be, will be directly related to how well it captures the mass market's imagination and tantalizes them into buying a Wii. It'll all boiling down to marketing as far as system sales goes. It's a given most people who bought a Wii for Wii Sports will get the sequel. If Nintendo goes back to the malls and hands-on with the new improved controls, expect it to move a lot of systems. Especially since supply is no longer an issue. The casual/non-gamer is still a market barely touched when compared to it's overall size.
I think it is very plausible that a number of gamers are mildly interested in the concept of Wii Sports, but didn't want to buy a Wii for it. A new version, ESPECIALLY a more advanced version, might change that.

Its the same reason that franchises with multiple iterations boost hardware sales for other devices. Look at each Final Fantasy on PS2 in Japan, each GTA on PS2 in the west, Madden, Call of Duty, etc. Any popular game with a large social element can boost hardware sales for an extended period.
There was a note from an analyst that Call of Duty the franchise probably has 23 million fans worldwide. That is why the game sales keep going up.
I figure if 45 million people own Wii Sports with a Wii, perhaps as many as 135 million people played Wii Sports at least a little bit. Most of those people probably will never buy a Wii and Wii Sports Resort, but I would suspect for 5, 10 million people who played Wii Sports but only it was "meh" the features and improvements of Wii Sports Resort are exactly what they wanted, and they'll buy a Wii for it. Wii Fit, Wii Play and even are Wii Music are a similar thing - people who bougt those games probably played Wii Sports, thought those games improved on a facet they disliked in Wii Sports, and bought Wiis with the new titles. Look at Japan - you see a rise for all three titles.

I also think there is a clear audience for sport/athletic software on Wii, why else would EA Fit, Wii Fit and all the other crap sell so well.
Wii Music was not a sport game, WSR is. That should indicate a significant advantage right out of the gate.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
And if were talking about boosts? Well maybe these titles will bounce Wii back up to 600 - 800k months but we'll have to wait and see.
