Forums - Sony - MGS 4 vs MGS:Rising

Quick question. Not trying to start any thing but people are saying MGS4 is not possible on the 360. But now since MGS:R was announced the developers are saying its gonna surpass MGS4 graphic wise. So wat does that mean? IS MGS4 possible on the 360? Or do they have to restart everything in order for MGS:R to be possible on the 360. Either way I will probably buy it as long as its fun and runs good.

a lot of this crap is your usual PR talk that extreme DELUSIONAL fanboys use to justify their choice and it's on all sides not just Sony.

bottom line don't take it so seriously.

They also have to build a brand new engine from scratch for this multiplat game, which seems to imply that the original MGS4 engine was so heavily optimised for the PS3 that it just wouldn't work very well with the 360.

I think I will wait until I see some detail game footage. On the face of it yeah it could look better but obviously they cannot do it the same way and I am sure comprimises will need to be made after all it will not have the Bluray capacity to fall back on.

Maybe this will be the first HD install only game and it will come on 8 discs :)

mgs4 was not possible on 360 because of size of the game.

MGS4 wasn't possible on 360 because it had been optimised so much to run perfectly and look amazing on PS3. Ignoring the installs, of course.

I would assume MGS:Rising is being built from the ground up, and I would HOPE it looks better than MGS4, it'll be released 2 years later.

I'm betting a lot of the Blu-Ray for MGS4 was taken up with the uncompressed (AFAIK) audio, and a few GB for the MGO portion.

As far as engines go, The MGS4 one is probably too optimised for PS3 so either they need to build one from scratch (fairly unlikely), or tweak another engine.

Like Kantor, I'm also expecting (rather hoping, I should say) it to look better than MGS4 did, even though that game looked brilliant imo.

MGS4 wasn't impossible for the 360 because the graphics were too good, but because it was made from the beginning to be PS3 exclusive. This means that the game was built to only run on the PS3, but run on that console extremely well. MGS:R, on the other hand, will be built with the 360 in mind.

Enjoy

I honestly could see MGS:R on 3 HDDVD discs for 360.  Think about it, the graphics will take a ton of disc space.  So, unless all this time, they're unspecifically meant the PS3 version's graphics were going to surpass MGS4, while the 360 version wouldn't even do that, expect multiple discs for 360.

Remember, they had to remove some content from MGS4, because not even the blu-ray could store so much information at that time.  And, with MGS:R missing MGO, it has an extra 15-20 GB to work with, so, the space is there.

@Burning Typhoon
3 HD-DVD's? I'm not sure there are many 360's out with those drives. can people still get them?
