Forums - Nintendo - So why do we get Wii Fit plus / Mario Galaxy but no new Mario Kart?

Hasnt there only been 1 MK game per different console/handheld? Its tradition.

Wii Fit is a new idea that can be expanded upon with WM+

Mario Kart doesn't really need changing, so there is no reason to have more than 1 iteration per console.

New tracks? I'm sure it would be very popular.

Oh, Wii Fit Plus will use WM+? I guess it makes sense considering the name, but I didn't know that.

No I don't think it does actually, at least I haven't heard that and Nintendo didn't mention that at their Media Briefing..

I would totally go for a partial Mario Kart Wii update. Just a different selection of past tracks from what was in the full game (maybe even a couple of new tracks), which has some questionable inclusions and exclusions, and release it for 20-30 bucks.

@hsrob: It would be great if they made some Mario Kart DLC, but I'm not counting on it unfortunately...

The main issue with your argument is this: Mario Kart Wii is a multiplayer game, in fact it's even an online multiplayer game with endless replayability while Super Mario Galaxy is a one player game as is Wii Fit, both of which are being improved upon/added to with their respective follow ups.

This is why you won't see a sequel to Super Smash Bros. Brawl on Wii either, they're both enough for the one generation.

Another thing is the Wii Fit you know now will not be sold any more once Fit Plus hits. Wii Fit Plus w/Balance Board is going to replace Wii Fit and the Wii Fit Plus software will also be made available to those that bought the original. A few people have been confused with that so I thought I'd clarify :P

Is that correct?  Oh no!!! I was still holding out hope that they would leave both on the market (like Brain Training and Brain Training 2) and leave the possibility of Wii Fit selling over 30 million.  Also isn't that going to kill sales of Wii Fit Plus?  If they stop selling Wii Fit it could imply that it was flawed and so they had to update and replace it.  That would make people think well there is probably going to be something flawed in Wii Fit Plus so let me wait for Wii Fit Multiplication to get released.

i dont want an mk sequel, cus it will split the online crowd.

the games perfect, and a blast online. keep it rocking for a bit more i say.

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Wii Fit had obvious possibilities to be improved, Galaxy was seen as nearly perfect by a lot of people but not by Miyamoto. That's why they got replacement / sequel. As long as Nintendo doesn't feel like a new MK would offer something new, they won't make one.

I think Nintendo could improve Mario Kart in a very cool way: User created content. Like MK tournament track remixes.
