This has to be a joke thread right? Wii has consistently outsold 360 by a sizeable margin for years. How is it exactly the 360 is closing the gap? Especially once the next round of big Wii games launch later this year.

Sorry about this. I just found it too amusing to pass up. You know you game a lot when you mispell 'crisis' with that spelling.

@ OP: As others have said, I think it's due to the current state of affairs in NA and around the world. I think it's that the Wii has fallen more than the 360 rising. Kudos to all 3 for staying this strong in such hard times and still offering every consumer base with great stuff both now and in the future.
I was expecting most, if not all, major publishers to go the way of Activision and reuse old tech and re-release the same games with new wrappings. But we're still getting the latest and greatest from the industry, seeing what E3 had in store.
uh are you sure look at the chart

Love the way you spelt crisis. Unless the current Crysis is taking over all the companies employees work time when they should be working on their own stuff.

or this one...
look mom! the gap is still increasing....
^ Looks like PS3 took more Wii bump than 360.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
darth the wii is still out selling the xbox theres no way the gap is closing
Year over year sales show that the Wii is down (about) 6%, the PS3 is down (about) 20%, the XBox 360 is up (about) 18%, and the HD consoles combined are down (about) 2% ...
Being that last year the Wii saw the release of three of the biggest games of the year by this point in the year (Wii Fit, Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart) and hasn't seen anything similar so far this year, it shouldn't be too big of a surprise that sales are down.
While the XBox 360's lower price has probably translated into some potential Wii owners switching to an XBox 360, I think it is more likely that the XBox 360 is really taking a large chunk of potential PS3 owners away from it.
@HappySquirel
you fail to mention PS3 also saw the release of MGS4 & GTA 4
I think that darth means weekly gap, not overall one, which is true, since Wii is going down steeply while 360 kind of maintains its sales.
I'm sure this year will not be the way Nintendo expects it to be. All depend on WSR success, but I don't believe it will be a great HW mover. They will have to try better next year.
