Forums - Microsoft - Lets talk Alan Wake.

Remember that this was the actual first time that the game was showen live which means that they really wanted to make a impact. Maybe they thought that showing the puzzle side of it just wouldnt have had as much impact as showing the more action side of the game. Pluse showing action instead of the puzzle and and mind playing part of the game insures they dont leak any sort of big story spoilers.
Reason for so much ammo could be that when people usualy demo games on stage they use a code that gives them extra health, ammo etc so that they can play the game and not worry about getting killed. It insures that they can play through the part of teh game that they wanted to show in the time that is given them lol would be so funny if they kept getting killed at the same spot and there time ran out.
I agree with the looks of this game it simply is amazing. Before e3 there were planty of people(most I would say not knowing exactly what they were on about) saying how the 360 was maxed out graphicly then Alan Wake comes along(with some other games to) and gave them all a big slap in the face.
I have been looking forward to this game for a long time and cant wait to delv into its strange world.

I thought the demo was very immersive, slightly reminded me of Bioshock. I will definitely be picking this up.

And guys, don't expect the see every aspect of the game in a tiny demo...lol

Great, a thread to Alan Wake. GOTY 2010 and my highest awaited game.

A short comment before I read the whole OP. I never understood why people have had a hard time to guess and/or interpret the gameplay genre of Alan Wake.

IMO it was always clear, and now after E3 it's nothing to even argue about, that Alan Wake was a typical 'action' or more specifically 'action adventure' gameplay (of course with a horror theme and story, but that aspect is always unique for every game, untied to the gameplay mechanics).

Think 3d person view, with lots of freedom of movement and high degree control of the camera, just like Assassin's Creed, GTA4, Zelda, Alone in the Dark, Prince of Persia, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Tomb Raider, Uncharted and so many other action/action-adventure games.

EDIT: so Alan Wake gameplay is not that close to Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Dead Space and other games I often see wrongly mentioned and it being compared to. The 'action game' genre - especially it's sub-genre 'action-adventure' is far more correct)

I was a bit disappointed myself with the gameplay. I thought it would be a little more unique not Resident Evil 5 + flashlight.

I was so psyched for this game til I saw the demo. For 3-4 years I've been waiting for anything on this and all I get is some cheesy bad guys and a front man with a flashlight. I mean if you are going to try and take the RE4 style then it needs to be awesome.

Graphics looked great in the game but hard to just get excited about that.

Wow, so few replies but so much confusion already in this thread about which gameplay and genre Alan Wake belongs to.

Guys, just think GTA4 and you don't have to ponder anymore.

I think the more we find out about this game and the more we see of it I think people will see that its not going to be like RE. Like I said in my origanal post they probably went with action simply because it would have more of a impact and reavel less of the story.

I thought the game looked pretty cool. Keeping my eye on this one.

Hmm, the gameplay trailer didn't make me think of GTA4 at all. I'm not seeing that, it looks like it has much more free movement actions then GTA4 did.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.
