Great, a thread to Alan Wake. GOTY 2010 and my highest awaited game.

A short comment before I read the whole OP. I never understood why people have had a hard time to guess and/or interpret the gameplay genre of Alan Wake.

IMO it was always clear, and now after E3 it's nothing to even argue about, that Alan Wake was a typical 'action' or more specifically 'action adventure' gameplay (of course with a horror theme and story, but that aspect is always unique for every game, untied to the gameplay mechanics).

Think 3d person view, with lots of freedom of movement and high degree control of the camera, just like Assassin's Creed, GTA4, Zelda, Alone in the Dark, Prince of Persia, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Tomb Raider, Uncharted and so many other action/action-adventure games.

EDIT: so Alan Wake gameplay is not that close to Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Dead Space and other games I often see wrongly mentioned and it being compared to. The 'action game' genre - especially it's sub-genre 'action-adventure' is far more correct)
