But what about the $49.99 Halo 3? Costco sold the regular Halo 3 for that price. Most stores don't sell games for as little as Costco but surely some major stores sold the game for less than the MSRP. What about Sam's Club? This kinda throws the games sold number off a little.

Personally, I don't believe they sold more copies than Halo 2, simply because Microsoft didn't give any unit numbers themselves. If they had beaten Halo 2 numbers I can't see any reason for them not to release them. Now they could just claim "biggest entertainment launch ever" using dollar value. If they had added something like 2.2M copies of Halo 3 sold people could take away from that by stating that Halo 2 sold more copies.
