Personally, I don't believe they sold more copies than Halo 2, simply because Microsoft didn't give any unit numbers themselves. If they had beaten Halo 2 numbers I can't see any reason for them not to release them. Now they could just claim "biggest entertainment launch ever" using dollar value. If they had added something like 2.2M copies of Halo 3 sold people could take away from that by stating that Halo 2 sold more copies.
