Forums - Gaming - Could Sony have given God Of War 2 the Zelda TP treatment (PS2&PS3 release)

I have been wondering offlate, God Of War 2 was released well after PS3's launch as one of the must have titles for the PS2. Agreed, the PS3 could still play the game thx for BC, Sony could have released a souped up version of the Game with HD gfx and cutscenes for the PS3.

The PS3 was badly in need of a hit and a PS3 version of GOW2 would have done wonders to its sales. Zelda TP sold just under 1M on the GC and  almost 2M on the Wii in North America. God Of War 2 had a great first week, but it seems to have lost its way as the weeks passsed by. Most hardcore gamers who constitute to the biggest fanbase for Mature Third Person Adventure games, shifting to the HD era.

A PS3 version of GOW2 would have given Ps3 sales a boost and would have set up Ninja Gaiden Sigma for a better launch on the PS3.

Unline the Wii and GC, the PS2 and PS3 architecture is vastly different. And so I guess porting the engine over the PS3, improving textures, polycounts and improving them to HD resolutions might have been a lot of difficult. But I guess Sony should have taken Nitnendo's lead and ported their last PS2 killer title to the PS3.

Microsoft had already cancelled most Xbox titles or shifted development over to the 360. Considering Sony's commitement for a strong PS2 software lineup, a simultaneous PS2+PS3 release would have made both PS2 & PS3 fans happy.

I want a real PS3 GoW not some port in HD.

Could've, would've, should've, it didn't happen and there's no turning back now.

In the end, Nintendo didn't do a heck of a lot to port TP to the Wii. They just tacked on some waggle controls, mirrored the layout of the world, and added a wide screen option. With Sony's HD 'next gen' approach for the PS3, it would have required a heck of a lot more work to bring out GoW2 to the PS3 (especially if Sony didn't want the game to look like a cheap 'upgrade').

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

VGChartz Resident Thread Killer

God of War 2 was a beautiful game on the PS2. I think Sony should have one upped the Wii and said "Screw PS2. We're going PS3 all the way!" I wanted LoZ:TP for the Wii in the worst way. Problem was, I couldn't find a Wii. After I bought the Gamecube version, there was no Wii killer app. I saw a Wii in January, and didn't even want to buy it (big mistake).

If the sure fire hit GOW2 was a PS3 exclusive, it would've appealed more to those on the bench about buying a PS3 who don't really care for FPS games. It's truly a more high profile game than anything else Sony has this year.

I thought it was a giant blunder when Sony announced GoW was PS2-only.

It's almost as if they wanted to handicap the PS3.

The main difference between TP on the GC andf Wii is *just* the controls. Since the PS2/PS3 have identical controls, this wouldn't make much sense.

Better off spending their time working on the full PS3 version of GoW.

The biggest problem is that they worked almost four years to make the GOW engine and they used the same engine for GOWII with some little updates.

Making it for PS3 would have take some years to let it look likes an PS3 avarage.

I thought the only difference was that GOW II could be played in 720 resolution.

Honestly, what I'm about to say will go against everything most Sony and Microsoft fans' beliefs but I believe that both first and third party publishers on the PS3 and XBox 360 are focusing way too much on having the most advanced graphics ... I believe that the market has to start thinking about supporting multiple budgets levels for games and stop putting the focus entirely on graphics.

If I was in charge at Sony or Microsoft I would have been announcing that internal development would be producing:

  1. 1 Big budget ($20 Million+) game every 2 months
  2. 1 Mid Budget ($10 Million+) game every month
  3. 2 Small Budget ($5 Million+) games every month
  4. 4 tiny Budget (~$1 Million) downloadable game every month

Now, I could be wrong but I suspect that a lot of consumers and third party developers would get detached from the concept that an XBox 360/PS3 game had to look a certain way or play a certain way in order to be good; the reason why Sony and Microsoft would have to be the center of these markets is because first party developers end up being the role-models for all other developers on their console.

@happy you are probably right.

But if we are talking about GOW the game looked awesome and the fans are waiting to see something incredible.

And yes developpers who love to make GREAT LOOKING games like Epic prefere to make games on X360 and PS3. I think if you are a developper who prefer to make special gameplay but not great looking visuals they go for the Wii.

I mean if a PC gamer buys the best game PC available they want to play games like Crysis and not games like Half life one.

these systems are being sold on the notion of top of line visuals, look at something like earth defense force, the game is a lot of fun, but professional reviewer basically trashed the game over it's visuals calling that they need things like a bigger budget,
EDF doesn't seem to be doing to well
seriously if games don't look good why shouldn't it be on the wii?
