NSMB Wii pretty much IS a sequel to Super Mario World. It's got crazy powerups, similar enemies, and rideable Yoshi, only now it's in 3D and Mario has all his great moves from later games.

I would have agreed that Super Mario World was the best platformer ever made before Super Mario Galaxy came out.



Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Gosh, I think reading the OP and THREAD TITLE just made me a little domber.

No, Super Mario World is overrated. As is the sub-par NSMB. I'm not very exited for the new game (which seems to be based primarily on those two titles), either.

Nintendo did make the greatest 2D platformer ever, but they went and handed the sequel off to Artoon... Ugh.

koopalings are in NSMB Wii, that's as close as we will get from NSMW, but I believe this is a spiritual successor, not a direct one, but one in some way.

Best platformer? Only if you think 2-D platformers are better than 3-D. Personally, thats a hard call to make...i love both styles.

Anyway, for best 2-D platformer...it's definately in the running, but I think SMB3 has it beat. Actually..so does Super Metroid. Actually... so does super mario world 2. Maybe even Megaman 2,3, and X.

NSMB is a great series too...it's wonderfully retro yet completely fresh.

i agree, super mario world shits all over mario galaxy, and new super mario bros, but its on par with mario 64.

I can't believe there are so many people in this thread who have never played Yoshi's Island! Where I come from, saying a game is better than Yoshi's island counts as a form of mental illness.



Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

Super Mario World was definitely an awesome game, but once you got passed Mario's crying Super Mario World Yoshi's Island was a much better game!!
