No need to put such a huge emphasis on time. If the PS3 gets a $100 cut say in September, and the 360 doesn't.......then the PS3 could outsell the 360 by a ton, greatly reducing those times. Those calculations are useless as they ignore software boosts and holiday changes.

I actually have another chart (troll with momentum!.xls) that takes that into account, it just breaks if you try to put anything over about 100 weeks into it.  I have to play with the math a little more before I actually show it off.

Still though, even assuming 1-5% growth week after week, it doesn't change much (and 5% growth week after week is a huge number).

Also, about huge holidays boosts-- all three consoles get them and I'm aware some get bigger boosts and that changes things.  I know that chart isn't exact science but it paints a good picture.

@WereKitten-- I wouldn't be surprised if I messed up a number in my others (or Europe) section, I can double check later.

exactly kowenicki's chart proves, if a console can do MUCH BETTER than the other one in the holidays, it doesn't matter what happens in the rest of the year

so if PS3 can get GT5 out with a huge price cut & sell much more than xbox 360.....twesterms "graph thing" is pretty much void

I think it will happen. You know Microsofts strategies. They have a somewhat destructive pricing strategy....in a sense.

I think MS would rather kill of the competitions sales that make a little bit more profit. MS have been out to hurt the Playstation this gen in order for them to do better next Gen, not make money.

Well, thats how I see it at least

The PS3 has outsold the 360 in Japan for I don't know how many weeks. The gap is getting bigger, just not very quickly

Well, that chart shows that the PS3  - before the latest pricecut - had oversold the 360 by about 2.4M in 19 months.

Thus, to close the current gap (1.3M) at the same rate it would take about 10 months.

I'd say its a certainty.  Why are you comparing it to the artificially overpriced cash cow that is the PS2??

Think about it... it will be affordable by then for MS and would kill the PS2 and cause a massive blow to the PS3 at the same time....


But MS had 2 price cuts in Europe last year (the first one did fuck all). Meaning they may not be able to afford one this year.

I m sure they can make one, but I m not sure they will do it

Whatever, I think something can happen in NA to alignate the console with Europe ($ = euros)
