Forums - Sony - The PS3 is really catching up the Xbox 360 in Europe.

Microsoft's strong global lead and reasonable European lead is holding, but they should move to ensure their lead somehow.

It is likely that with a $50 price cut (and European equivelant), the PS3 will comfortably outsell the Xbox 360.  Now obviously Microsoft has just as much scope to cut price (or more) than Sony, but it is in their best interests I would say too offer more incentives for purchase through games, advertising, and an updated and US-equivelant online marketplace.

Whilst Microsoft's American market is much more likely to stand up to a PS3 price cut, they wont have that luxury in Europe, however far off such a cut may be.

I thought the PS3 already had the lead in Europe?

Hooray for yet another chance to bring out troll.xls!  (and I'm using last weeks numbers by the way, don't feel like putting in this weeks yet)

Here's the time it will take for the PS3 to catch up to the 360 assuming it starts outselling it tomorrow.

Time for the PS3 to catch the 360 (in 100,000's)
  Worldwide America Others
Time(weeks) Sales/Week Sales/Week Sales/Week
4 1993 2193 1220
8 996 1096 610
16 498 548 305
24 332 365 203
52 153 169 94
78 102 112 63
104 77 84 47
130 61 67 38
156 51 56 31
182 44 48 27
208 38 42 23
234 34 37 21
260 31 34 19

If the PS3 is to catch the 360 in others in lets say three years, it will have to outsell the 360 by 31k per week every week for the next three years.  It can be done but will it really matter in 2012/13?

@ Twestern - you must have that troll excel doc on reserve. Please e-mail me a copy for my gaming blog. LOLz.

@ twesterm

Worldwide? No I doubt it. But there are some European heavy titles that are relevant to gamers (sports, RPG's etc) that could be influenced by a shift in sales fortunes.

And did you just accuse me of trolling in FAVOUR of the PS3?

A 360 pro model is almost half the price of a 80GB PS3. If MS had another price cut, the arcade model would be the same price as a PS2.

If Sony have a 100 Euro price cut and release GT5 this holiday, I don't think MS can do anything... Sony will be ahead in Europe before the end of 2009...

There's a difference between others and Europe. I heard some time ago that the PS3 had sold more in Europe than x360.. maybe that was just some rumor then lol..

@Twestern

That graph is all wrong...

edit: It should be in 1,000's not 100,000.

@ twesterm, Europe not Others!!!!

@ jalocin, I think it did overtake, but then the 360 took its lead back

@Munkeh111

Ah I see. Makes sense..
