I remember Miyamoto talking about Wii Speak being used in more games. I don't remember where though.

He said it at this E3, I believe at the roundtable discussion.

I've had one myself for about three months, but haven't once used it. Here's hoping it rears its head more often. WHY wasn't it used in Excitebots again?

Nintendo doesn't dictate to developers (including internal studios) what to include in games.    Why Monster Studios (it is Monster isn't it?) didn't include it is beyond me.   Low on the priority list and out of time/budget?

I heard that claim before, but I'm highly skeptical that it's true. It's an aside, though.

i hope so, online is so much better with chat....i am still hopin for a headset but i'm not holding my breath

I started making videos for youtube; check them out.

Systems owned: Atari 2600, NES(3), Top loader NES, Yobo NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Sega Gamegear, Sega Nomad, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Playstation 2, Wii, PS3 (slim 120 GB), Wii U

You should congratulate me. I destroyed the vile red falcon and saved the universe. I consider myself a hero.

Its install base is too low. The Balance Board has a huge install base and even that is only lightly supported.

Also I've heard officially that a third-party Wii headset would easily be possible but it's not financially viable given the current marketplace (no one using Wii Speak, no games supporting it, etc.)

I think Nintendo would need to push it more themselves; I think they expected it and Animal Crossing Wii to do better than they have; maybe they decided against pushing it too much and that's why it wasn't a mandatory bundle with AC Wii + Wii Speak last year. Dunno.

Nintendo should PAY devs to have online support in games and WiiSpeak mandatory. It could be an option but the option to use it should be mandatory.

Not pay as in millions, but couple thousand per game would be ok.

Sony is paying devs to make exclusives on the PS3, so why can't Nintendo do it?

I just picked up a Wii Speak last week for $13 (Amazon.ca had a special) for use in Conduit and eventually Endless Ocean 2 (I hope! Assuming I can find a diving buddy). If it wasn't on special I wouldn't have gotten it at all.

It's becoming a catch 22. Not many people will bother to get it because no games support it and no games will bother to support what no one has.

Also none of the playerbase is gonna buy something that no one else has.   I would like to chat to people on the conduit, but it isn't worth shelling out the cash for it if only 1 person in every 4 games will be able to reply back.

If i'm not mistaken, according to Nintendo's guidelines TC online voice chat is only permitted with those on your friends list. There is no voice chat with random people online. Even if everyone is using it, it won't matter unless you have their FC.

@kyliedog: this is what i'm basing my statement on. someone emailed HVS, and they clearly state that voice chat is with friends only.
